    Hello Barefoot,

I'm glad you got it sorted. If still needed, the tutorial below can help show you how to hide known file extensions to not see them anymore either.

I have Windows 10 pro v1703, but none of these suggestions work to remove the shortcut text. If I change the HKCU link value to all zeros, it immediately goes back to the previous value. Changing the HKLM to add the link key doesn't make any difference either. Is there anything here I'm doing wrong? I am an administrator on my machine, but I should note that it HAD been working after I initially upgraded from Windows 7 Pro shortly before the 7/29/2016 deadline--this is "relatively" new behavior.

    Thx

Hello Elaine, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Are you using the .bat files?

If not, then you will need to restart the explorer process after manually changing both registry entries.

No, I'm an IT pro, but I'll try resetting explorer. Didn't have to do that in the past

    Thx

Sorry, having a brain fart day--it's h*ll when you get old Would you be so kind as to post the links for the bat file(s)?

    Thx

No worries. They're on the first page in this tutorial thread. You'll want to use the one from step 3.

Thanks! Now that is interesting. I already had the first HKCU key, and that was what I'd been changing--and re-changing. I did NOT have the HKLM key at all when I started playing with this. However, I did run the bat, and Voila! It works I'm not sure exactly what was different about the bat file from what I did, but I suspect I didn't restart Explorer correctly--that's not something I've typically ever needed to do.

    Regardless, THANK YOU!!!

    Elaine
