Create Recovery Drive in Windows 10  

I have a question regarding this tutorial. I notice that this procedure will ask you if you want to delete the recovery partition on your HD when it is done creating the recovery drive. Does this imply that this procedure is creating a copy of that recovery partition, if one is present?

I'm interested in this for the following reason (bear with me, this requires a little explaining):

First, I was looking at Kari's tutorial on how to create your own customized recovery partition:

The problem is that I wanted to do this on a laptop where the entire disk will be encrypted with bitlocker. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that a recovery partition won't work in this scenario because bitlocker will prevent booting the recovery partition. If I'm wrong about this, do let me know.

So my thinking was that I could perform a clean install of Windows, get everything setup the way that I want, and then create my customized recovery partition. Then, I would follow this procedure to create a separate recovery drive. Finally, I could then bitlocker encrypt my HD and it would no longer matter if the recovery partition didn't work because I have a separate recovery drive.

Does this make any sense or am I way off base here?

I am getting the error "A problem occurred while creating the recovery drive", i have unchecked "Backup system files to the recovery drive". I am on build 17134.590

Also the USB drive becomes in-accessible or un-formated as soon as error message appears.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the USB flash drive. You might try using another one to test.

If you like, you could also download a Windows 10 ISO file and use it to create a bootable Windows 10 installation USB. This can be used as a recovery (winre) drive as well.

Hi. When I power on my laptop I get to the logo screen with the dots going around and around. Then it stays like that forever. So next I tried tapping f11 and got to the choose an option screen. But should I use Use a Device (I have a recovery usb drive) or should I use Troubleshoot??

Hi Brink. Thanks for the quick response. Maybe I did back up the system files to the recovery drive. It's been 2 years and I just don't remember. If I clik on troubleshoot will I be able to get back to Use a Device to use my recovery drive?
