Turn On or Off BitLocker for Operating System Drive in Windows 10

After i did step 7,


Step 10 shows on my screen


Enter a pin


choose a pin thats 6-20 numbers long

reenter pin



When i look at the tutorial, it does show that in the 3rd picture below it.


But in the pictures it does say

You will not see this step if you did step 3 above for the 2 photos below it which is





But did i even do step 3? Its basically checking to see if you have a tpm chip right? I checked that yesterday. But when you check it, you arent clicking anything. You only going to device manager and see if its there or not.



So am i suppose to get that page of

However next to each of these 2 boxes.. the first one says no TPM... second box shows in red TPM in the tutorial. So shouldn't i get one of these boxes to show up first at least?


Okay i think i confuse myself here. I think i did do step 3 so i wont have these 2 boxes right? Because right below the enter a pin that is 6-20 numbers, there is an option on the tutorial that say to create a password to unlock the drive.


So it should show what is on the screen now? But do i need to remember both the pin as well?

Is it possible i enter a pin and then it requires a password afterwards or that is not possible?


I followed the steps correctly in step 5 so why does it give me this option? I obviously dont want a pin as well even if you put 213893281121323 as your pin, well someone could basically type every single 6-20 digit number and get in right?

The person on other suggested this and I like your opinion if this is good.


He suggested first thing i do is set a password for windows 10. So i set it up and then shut it down. Then turn on computer and enter my windows 10 password to log back in. Then i install bitlocker like i did before many hours ago on the screen i got stuck on.. which is basically me doing step 3 instead of 4 or 5.


Thus step is called 3.

3. To Automatically Unlock Operating System Drive At Startup with TPM


He tells me if i do it this way, then whenever i turn on my laptop, there is no password or pin i need to type in for my boot for bitlocker as it automatically unlocks. Thus it goes straight to my windows 10 password screen where it ask me to enter the password. He says this is the simplest way and says this way, even if someone takes out hard drive and put it in another computer, they cannot do this because bitlocker already encrypted that. Is that correct? This is the method he suggested to me and said if i do this, i need to setup windows 10 password. Can you confirm this works?


Or should i set up a pin right now as well... then do the windows 10 password later on? So having a pin is like having a second password number to remember right? But is this unnecessary as what he describe, you only need to remember your windows 10 password and bitlocker protects it?

But if i do it that person's way, then i would not be putting any password or pin. He says most ppl he know does it that way. Do you agree or know if this is true? Do most ppl put a pin or password to boot bitlocker? How is yours set up with bitlocker which i assume you use?


He says having the windows 10 password and encrypting it with bitlocker and having it automatically unlock at startup with TPM is the most simplest way because you only have to remember 1 thing... your windows password. Do you agree with this?

thanks. But i have to make sure i undo the edit group policy thing i did previously where it turned it to enabled and need to make it not configured right? Basically undo every single change when i was doing step 5?

In description it says if you use it with windows 10 at least, choose 1st option. If you use windows 7 or 8, choose 2nd option.



Im confused here. So it seems to be the first one but the tutorial says choose 2nd option?
