Is there anyway to modify this bat file so that it pauses after each command so I can see the results before it moves on?
Also, has there been any updates to Windows that the bat file needed edited for and have all those been done to the latest version?
Should it be ran safe mode?
Hello,
Here's an updated version of the .bat below that will let you see every detail as it's running.
Detailed-Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat
The .bat file currently doesn't need any updates.
Normally, you do not need to run the .bat file in Safe Mode.
Thank you Brink!
Unfortunately running this bat file does not solve my current issue of Windows Updates failing to install. I did notice that the commands in the bat file to delete some registry keys fails and with a manual search I didn't find them either. Here is the commands that the bat file ran:
:
:: Reset Windows Update policies
reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /f
reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate" /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate" /f
gpupdate /force:: Reset Windows Update policies
reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /f
reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate" /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /f
reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate" /f
gpupdate /force"
Are those "optional" entries or is that a possible pointer to why Windows update is failing because I "assume" Windows should recreate at least some of them for update to function properly.
Also one of the commands to change the startup of one of the services to auto at the end came as unauthorized and apparently remained as the default setting.
Those commands are to remove any possible group policies set for Windows Update.
It may be best to continue in your thread below to see if a solution may be found for your Windows Update issue.
