New guy here. Not seeing this helping me. I have a zillion photos organized in a main folder with subfolders. I want all the folders to show: Name, Date modified, type, size, Date created, Date taken, Tags, Camera model, Focal length, Max aperture, Exp time, Exp bias, Exp program, F-stop, ISO speed, Orientation, Program mode, White balance, Metering mode. So I set that up in the top folder and Customize to "Pictures / also apply to subfolders." That sticks. Then I do the Options>Change>View> Apply. But I still have subfolders showing "General Items." Also, if I go directly to such a folder and try to change to Pictures it won't take.
Hello adgorn, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Correct. This will only reset the folder views back to default for the template the folders are using.

It sounds like you are wanting to apply a folder view to all folders using the same folder template (ex: "Pictures")

Just to note, folder views are not saved for removable media.

For me & for several others, using the procedure in this tutorial resolved the But I still have subfolders showing "General Items." issue.

I hope it does for you aswell.

Thank you. So in your link, it starts with the system "Pictures" folder. Is that the secret? I have been starting with a folder of my choosing, trying to make it the Pictures template.

I never found that necessary. All my folder types were set using folders of my own choosing rather than the default Pictures, Videos, ... folders.

It depends on where you are trying to view them from, but you would want them to all use the same template.

You might find it easier to view them in the Pictures library instead. This way they will automatically share the same folder view.

Maybe I am missing something. I want to start over. So where/how exactly do I set a template to begin with?

    - - - Updated - - -

I learned a bit more from this: How to Customize Folder Views with Windows’ Five Templates

So I found a folder that was already set to Pictures and tweaked to my settings. Good. Now I go to another folder which only contains pictures and see it is set tp General Items. I change that to Pictures, go back out, come back in - and it's back to General Items. That's the root of my problem.

What is the full path of the folder that keeps changing back to General Items?

Is this folder location on a removable or external drive?

Another little thing - when I change the type to Pictures, it inserts a desktop.ini file into the folder containing the following.

    [ViewState]
    Mode=
    Vid=
    FolderType=Pictures

But it still doesn't change it to a Picture type.

And that's the problem I had. It was solved by following the procedure in this tutorial. Several others had the same experience - the same problem, the same solution.

I can't tell from your posted remarks whether or not you have completed the procedure in this tutorial or not.

    I am suggesting
    1 Do this tutorial's procedure.
2 Go back to that misbehaving folder and change it back to Pictures type.
3 Check that it stays as a Pictures type folder after you go elsewhere then return to it.
