    Hi Brink,

Why do I keep getting bad image error when launching apps after performing the procedure? I rolled back to my previous version and it was all good now but I just want to know so I can perform this again without issues in case I want to upgrade. Is it because I skipped downloading updates?
    Hello PRMyx,

Were these apps moved to a different location than default? If so, their links could have been broken be the repair install.

It could also be from file corruption caused by something.

My installation is W10 Pro, version 20H2, build 19042.685.

    The tutorial states clearly:
    [quote]
The installation media (ex: ISO or USB) must be the same edition and same or newer build as your currently installed Windows 10. If it's not, then the repair install will fail.
    [unquote]
    The ISO tutorial states:
    [quote]
ISO file for Windows 10 version 20H2 build 19042.631 is currently available for download using this option as of December 7, 2020.
    [unquote]

So the available ISO is older than my installed Windows build.
Where/how can I get the correct ISO (same build or newer than 19042.685), in order to do a repair in place keeping all files and apps?

There should be a newer ISO available now from M$$$: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 Use the MCT link to download the ISO.

There are two parts to the build number, 19042 is the major build (and is the equivalent of saying it's version 20H2). Your .685 is the minor build number and tells you which cumulative update is installed. A Feature Update changes the major build, a CU changes the minor build.

For a repair install to work, only the major build number needs to be the same as or newer than your currently installed Windows 10. A repair install with the 19042.631 ISO will work correctly. Afterwards a check for updates will be all you need to install the latest CU and bring you completely up to date.

If @Bree suggestion doesn't work for some reason you can get release build (19042.746) ISO from UUP dump - I've used that site before and would not bat an eye at doing so again. Make sure you select release builds.

M$ must have had a nice holiday break.

The current ISO from MCT will bring the repair update/install up to 19042.746 if Checks for Updates is enabled. Only other CU after may be the .Net.

That is the version of the MediaCreationTool20H2.exe, that is not the same as the version of W10 in the ISO it will create. The MCT will first download a Products.xml file that tells it where to download the files needed to make the ISO. This file currently tells it to make the ISO for 20H2 19042.631.

That ISO can successfully be used for a repair install on any 19042.nnn 20H2 machine, regardless of the minor build number.
