I'm glad it could help fevinsetter, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
I did the SAME thing for years with XP, then going to 8.1 and 10, the issue drove me up a wall until I found Brink's bat's. If you scan your slides into jpgs, you can also do the same thing in FastStone Image Viewer (http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm); drag and drop into any order then rename all or just some. You can also add more pics to the next rename, if you change your mind without being nagged about duplicate names too. Worth trying, imho.
Thanks Brink this is what I was using on Windows 7, I can finally manually arrange folders and images!
However it is not working the same as W7 in terms of images in a folder: for example I manually arrange an image next to another one. When I open with the "Photos" W10 program and use the Left/Right arrow keys it will ignore the manually arranged image as if it wasn't in that position, but in the old automatically assigned position. Even if I close and re-open the folder it behaves the same.
"Windows Photo Viewer" (which I had always used) scrolls through images based on their name and not position.
Is there any way I can fix this on either of the image viewer programs so it scrolls through images based on my manually arranged positions like I used to in W7? I really have no idea. Thank you.
EDIT: I just tried "Windows Live Photo Gallery" program and it behaves as I wished the other two would, it actually scrolls through the images based on my manual arrangement. I have no idea why "Photos" or "Windows Photo Viewer" won't work as they should, but I suppose this will suffice for now.
Hello Kusuri, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)
You could use the download in step 3 of OPTION TWO below for "Windows Photo Viewer" to have the fixed sort order.

Thanks I tried that registry with the Sort order fix and it worked! Can now use WPV as usual again :)
Hi,
I have I have used your download to diable auto arrange and it is very useful, but I wonder if it would be possible to get folders to behave how they did for me before in Windows 7. What I would like would be for the folder to remove any spaces within the grid thaat would be created when I move an Icon.
i.e. Setting my view as large icons I could move the icon in the top left (position 1) to for example the middle of the row (appr. position 5) and the icons would rearrange themselves so that what was in position 2 would be the new 1 e.t.c.
probably related it would also set the number of icons in the row to the folder size so for example If I had 10 icons in the folder in 2 rows of 8 and a row of 4, if I stretch the folder size the icons would rearrange themselves to two rows of 9 and a row of 2 and then if I keep stretching 2 rows of 10. The reverse would happen If I shrink the folder.
Would anyone be able to instuct me on if this setting can be set on my Windows 10 and how to do so if possible?
So, is it imposible to have this tweak enabled and normal tiles view instead of the extended tiles?
this is the only issue thats keeps me still on Windows Vista
I would like to move to win 10 if this is posible
thanks for this great forum
so, there's nothing to do with the "extended tiles" problem. ill keep looking for a solution or stop using tiles
don't know why microsoft disabled this since Windows 7
thank you brink
