Now that SMB1 is off I don't see Computer Browser under services of windows. Is that normal when SMB1 is turned off?

    Hello,

It is normal. I don't have the Computer Browser service either.

    Shawn,

Could you include an explicit statement in the intro stating that SMB1 would only be required for a network containing
    - pre-Vista Windows versions***, or
    - non-Windows computers, or
    - a network drive connected to a router that only has SMB1 capabilities.

    *** I bet @Bree's correct - Windows 10 Network Alternative?

    Happy New Year,

    Hello Denis,

Unless something changed, I had to have SMB1 enabled to share with any previous OS with Windows 10/11 like in step 4 of option one below. I believe to be able to see the computer in File Explorer > Network.

It will be interesting to hear what others are seeing for this now.

Well, maybe to see their names in Explorer. But for connecting by \\computername\sharename SMB1 is only required for XP and earlier. Vista and Win7 use SMB2.

The File explorer, Network section has been unreliable for years [since v1803?] whatever the Windows versions are in a network - mine are always current Windows 10 apart from my Windows 11 test computer which behaves in exactly the same way as the others in this regard.
    - The easiest way to knock some sense into it temporarily can be to enter \\ComputerName into its address bar for each network computer and then they will show up in File explorer, Network for the rest of that File explorer session or perhaps the rest of that Windows session.
    - Personally, I've rather given up on it & use \\ComputerName and \\ComputerName\ShareName shortcuts to open each network computer when I need to.

    All the best,
    Denis
