Just how do you know they are not logging you - is it because they say so on their websites?

I'm absolutely deadly serious, you stated these companies don't log you - how do you know this?

Well, how do you know that Windows is really updating when the system is telling you, that there are updates to go.

HOW do you know that these are REALLY REALLY updates and not any virus or a surveillance over your whole system?

    I'm absolutely deadly serious.

have you ever been to the website of NordVPN?

do you know what contracts are?

    Seriously, dude.

I've never made any claim about Windows, you made a claim that the VPN companies don't log, all I'm asking is how you came to this conclusion, so without deflecting again, can you tell me why you think they are not logging you?

You are again not answering me, how do you know they are not logging you?

By the way you are not answering I'll take it you just assumed so because they said so on their website.

As an Admin asking such kinda questions.... that's the far opposite of reputable.

for the future.... I will ignore such kinda nonsense completely.

So you are saying you have a contract with NordVPN that states there is no logging - is that correct?

I'm only trying to understand why you believe a company isn't logging you and what makes you come to that conclusion, it's not a rocket science question, but I understand that if you are not very bright, simple questions may confuse you leading to you insulting the questioner.

    That was uncalled for!

12 years ago I got my bank account hacked. I never got my money back. I started using a VPN then and I've never stopped. It has absolutely nothing to do with M$ telemetry. It has to do with a sense of online security and safety. Regardless of whether that feeling of safety is grounded in fact or not, for $2.60 a month it's not a great expense. I will never do another financial transaction online again without a VPN.

Regardless of what you think of Microsoft's behavior regarding privacy or telemetry they are not and have never been a reputable company.
I gather you have no problems with people opening your snail mail? Or reading your emails? Or tracking your purchases?

In Australia in 2017 the government introduced legislation that put Snowden's expose of PRISM to shame. All ISPs are required to collect all metadata and personal information of their customers and retain that data for "2 years minimum". Why is it so wrong in your opinion for anyone to want to hold on to a little privacy for as long as they can? That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Then in 2021 they introduced the "identify and disrupt" legislation that allows government and law enforcement agencies the power to take over your email accounts, social media accounts, bank accounts and pretend they are you.

You can google these if you are interested.

Again, why is it so wrong to want to hold onto the last vestiges of privacy and online safety by using a VPN.

Again, this has nothing to do with M$ Telemetry. Microsoft are unethical and questionable in more ways than just telemetry!

Actually, that is the case. When you buy a subscription from NordVPN ("a contract"), that contract states that they do not log data. That will change in the not too distant future I suspect, now that India is banning "no logging" policies.

The logs they are referring to are those that track what you do online. You of course have to trust the VPN provider is telling the truth. They do say they had an independent audit that confirmed their no logging.

In actuality, they do keep some logs; those related to your subscriptions and that related to any technical support you might have requested. I suspect if someone really wanted to match it all up it wouldn't be impossible.
