Titles of songs do not appear in Windows Explorer after ripping

    Dear all,
I have used Windows Media Player for ripping my CD into MP3, all titles and authors of the songs have been found in Windows Media Player. This is the great part. However, some titles and authors do not appear in Windows Explorer and do not also appear in other external players. It is annoying.
    Anyone has the solution?
    Many thanks

The track tags you normally get are obtained by your ripping software (including WMP) from online sources (Gracenote etc) but if it is a rare CD (or home made) the tags may not be available for download, so you don't see the info you normally do.
The title, artist, etc info is not stored on the CD itself.

Check whether the tag details actually exist ... MP3TAG
    Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v2, MP4, OGG, FLAC, ...)

Please post a screenshot of the columns you show in WMP & state which column is the problem.

Then right-click on the track and select Open file location then check you have that column set to display in File explorer and post a screenshot of it.

I suggest that you crop the screenshots before posting or they'll be too big for anything to be read.

Perhaps the problem will turn out to be that you have not set that column to be displayed in File explorer.

That's a separate problem. I suggest you sort out the first problem first. I will not be able to help with the second issue because I naver use other players.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month so I can benefit from Excel's filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial pages are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

    - And note that you can also search TenForums threads [rather than just searching tutorials] in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
[This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

    Dear TRY3,
I have captured what you asked to see (sorry it is in french but I guess it is easy to what the columns correspond to):
Titre in french = Title or Track in english
Interprete in french = Author in english
I would like to report the Title and Author in Windows Explorer (see below) :

What I see in Windows Explorer ("Titre" in french is "Track or Title" in English, and as you see, it is not reported here while it is seen in Windows Media Player, the same for "Interprete" in french which corresponds to "Author" in English) :

    Lugh,

    In File explorer,
right-click on any column header [such as Name],
    click on More …
set the checkboxes next to Titre & Interprete,
    click on OK.

It should now appear in File explorer for you.

You can also use the folder you have just used for this test as a template for all your Music folders.
    In File explorer,
    select the View menu,
    Options,
    View tab,
Folder views - Apply to folders.

    Oh, hold on.

I've had to look in each diagram separately because they were too big to read at the same time.
[I had been looking at Composer because that's what I thought was the 'Author' you wanted. I think the WMP English equivalent of Interprete is 'Contributing artists' or possibly 'Album artist'.]

I can now see that Titre & Interprete appear in WMP but not in File explorer. Unless the CD has only just been ripped and WMP has not been closed afterwards then I do not know what might be causing that problem.

    Sorry,
    Denis

    Lugh,

When I ripped CDs, I always found it best to just get the ripping done then close WMP and sort out Titles, Artists etc in File explorer. WMP would show the amended values when it was re-opened.

I don't have any notes about why I switched to this way of working. Perhaps I also had inexplicable problems such as yours.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Dear Denis,
I have solved this issue but since I have clicked a lot of stuff in WMPlayer, I am not sure anymore of what has exactly resolved this issue. In particular, I have ticked all the options as appeared below and all appear now in Windows Explorer! The one I remember that was not ticked was "To connect to internet (ignore the other commands)"
    Hope it will help others...
Many thanks, dear Denis, indirectly you helped me.
