windows 1803 has no 5.1 spdif audio available

the same board 5.1 spdif audio works fine on windows 7.

So I am upgrading to ver 1903, will this give me 5.1 spdif audio sound
I only have stereo coming through on spdif.
I was reading up and people were complaining they had lots of sound issues with spdif in the earlier versions of 10.

on ver 1803, going to spdif properties all it lists is a selection of 2 channel audio outputs. That is where the 5.1 output should show and it is not showing.

Does this mean it will never work in windows 10 as Microsoft made it?
    claims its using hdaudio.sys

If it does not work in win10, how can I get working 5.1 thru spdif. Can it come through the nvidia card itself?

I need your mobo manufacturer make/model. From there we can find your correct drivers. If by chance there are no drivers for windows 10 for your mobo. You can use the drivers for the OS your mobo uses and just run them in compatibility mode.

There is no model #, case , nothing. I bought years ago this MB off ebay and it is a fine MB, working for years. I put it into an old yellow PC case I had here, it is a bunch of parts I assembled, there is no HP model number that I know.

I looked it up, it has a realtek ALC888s audio chip, whenever win 10 decides to finish upgrading, and spdiff 5.1 output still does not work, I will download a realtek driver to see if it can work.

Ah, I see. That link you provided list the chipset. See if you can find that and install it.

After having a look at that mobo. There a few models with that mobo in it. So narrowing down drivers for it is like searching for the proverbial needle in a hay stack.

spdif is limited to 2.0 channels.

spdif only outputs 5.1 from something like Dolby Digital from DVD's.

It is a licensing issue. People were able to use hacked drivers before but Microsoft stopped that hack.

So there is nothing to fix.

So impossible to get 5.1 sound from spdiff on windows 10 . But which does output 5.1 sound on windows 7 ?
I think your wrong about this. Do you have any internet evidence to support your claim?

I use this all the time in windows 7. I have the spdiff cable plugged into the Sony audio receiver, and it plays fine 5.1 sound out to the speakers.
