Anyone noticing any difference between HDA 8940/8967 and latest 8978 ( improvements !)...........??
MoKiChU has updated the driver packs to: 6.0.9008.1 WHQL [18/08/2020]
For SonicStudio users A-volute has bee updated to 1.8.4.0
[DRIVERS] Realtek Audio (MB | Intel 2xx/3xx/4xx & AMD 3xx/4xx/5xx) - Page 35
9008 is much better than 9003(sounded like it Pringles can speakers).
A little on the bass heavy side, but still ok to keep.
Unfortunately, Asus is one of the brands that restricts HDA vs UAD drivers usage --- probably because they have a lot more premium (i.e. nahimic, dts, dolby, sonic radar...) add-ons.
In my sticky tutorial, I linked 2 individual cases where I managed to go from OEM HDA to OEM UAD merely by installing a newer driver from a newer computer/motherboard model. Asdsss's asrock 970A-G/3.1 motherboard dated back to 2015. Acer and Asrock put all their hardware ID's of computer models that originally came with HDA drivers back in 2015/2016 into their new UAD driver inf files. It seems to be a corporate decision by Acer and Asrock to include all models that they originally supplied Windows 10 HDA drivers to get UAD drivers. Whereas in the MUC's UAD cab file, just merely LOOKING at Dell's inf file name (something like HDXDELLBC2018.inf) seems to indicate that Dell made the cutoff line in the 2018 model year.
" Asus is one of the brands that restricts HDA vs UAD drivers usage "...........I see , so Im stuck on HDA !
Can not use MUC-updates , now testing the latest HDA 8978 (Official) in VM ..........gives a very good sound ( real good bass-boost also!) , however dont notice much difference between 8940/67 and 8978 .........thats why I ask people in this forum to give there opinion ( or should I consult the ear-specialist ?)
A total uninstall of Realtek , reboot , install latest MUC-driver does not work, I guess.......?
You probably tried a zillion unofficial driver updates from multiple people alanfox, pal1000, mokichu... and they all have their own registry hacks. As I said the most likely explanation is the 5 years ago you hit the bass boost option (that's now no longer show up on any GUI), but it's hidden and lurking in the registry somewhere. Some unofficial driver combination may have reactivated that option that was long forgotten in the registry.
So basically, all 4 of you could be experiencing this issue.
Driver version abc doesn't have bass boost turn on --- you think that it sound thin
Driver version xyz has bass boost turn on --- you think that it sound great.
Ok, Sandyt , what do you advice ; stay on 8940 or update to 8967 or 8978 ( they are all three official drivers ).............?
