Audio not working on hp probook 470 g5

Suddenly speaker icon shows white x on red background .

    Audio is not working.

I have reinstalled audio drivers with no luck to get audio working.

I have tried sound troubleshooter in HP Support Assistant with no luck.

It seems like audio hardware is not being recognised.

Any help in resolving issue would be appreciated.

Just so you know I am using Windows 10 1809.

    Thank you.

Hi, could you please rt click the speaker icon, click Troubleshoot Sound Problems and post a screenshot of the result.

To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post.

Please also post a screenshot of your Device Manager to demonstrate you have no missing drivers.

Suddenly speaker icon shows white x on red background .
    - do you have any idea what happened just before this?

Have you tried using a System Restore point if you have a recent one available? If restoring succeeds, these can be useful.

    1) Go to the Task Manager and restart Audio services, this maybe a temporary solution.
    2) Power Options > Additional power settings > Choose what the power button does > Change settings that are currently unavailable > turn off fast start-up > Save changes.
Shut down and Power on again it should take somewhat longer as it checks more things.
Do that a few times and then go back to fast start-up.
    3) Also try the Windows 10 audio troubleshooter.

Thank you so much for your reply. No need to restate your original point.

Irrespective of the x on the speaker, you should normally see a menu if you right click it.

That you don't is itself a sign something more serious is wrong.

Please could you answer the other two points in my post. Thank you.

Another way to access the troubleshooter:
Audio not working on hp probook 470 g5-snap-2019-04-04-08.51.50.png

    Please post screenshot.

I'm guessing you may face a more significant repair.
As a matter of routine please run
    chkdsk c: /scan
from an admin command or Powershell prompt and post the result.

    If ok, also run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and post the result.

After those repairs and a restart, do you see any change?

Please try creating new user for test purposes, log in as that user. Do you see the same problem?

If so, it's a Windows issue. If not, it's a user profile problem.

If so, you could try this free cautious repair tool:

Another rule in / rule out is hardware.

Download and install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows version 1.5.4.0: (right upper area link)
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Official Site

Click system tests > system extensive test > run overnight > the next day run the component test (some are interactive) > post images of the test logs into the thread
