You can use the portable version of CCleaner to avoid this issue https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds

I've never used the portable version of CCleaner. I am curious as to how it functions. I read that it store my CCleaner settings in an .ini file, which is fine.
But does it otherwise operate just like the slim version? Also, will the portable version, like the slim version, keep trying to poke holes in my Bitdefender firewall?

The portable version has .ini files in the folder where you unzipped the files to (see below). It has full functionality - but I don't use the registry cleaner. I don't know about the firewall. Note there are some extra files since I use CCEnhacer.

They reported Defender only detects the FREE version of CCleaner, the Paid version is NOT detected or affected by Windows Defender.

That's because only the free version installer has PUPs.

I stopped using the paid version quite a while back, because of all the BS they have pulled since aTrash took it over
    (my personal opinion)
