Windows Store Missing - Can't get back

I have lost access to Microsoft Store. I have tried everything I can find to fix the issue: change regions / time, WSReset, the Troubleshooter etc but nothing works. Microsoft Store doesn't even show in my App list.

I recently found the Powershell command to re-install Microsoft Store but I get the following error:

The package runtime information is corrupted. <Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073D55>

I seem to be going in circles, any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi, first you can try
Re-register Microsoft Store app in Windows 10

    and
Reinstall and Re-register Apps in Windows 10
    Option 3

    - I note you don't say which Powershell command you previously tried, so one of these may be the same.

The forum asked you to quote your Windows build number so we don't have to keep asking and asking.. Thanks.

History: (so often not given by posters)
    - when did the Store last work for you?
    - what happened before it stopped working?

Do you have other issues with other apps or anything else?

Guessing the above won't help- and if it doesn't:

Basics: as I know nothing of your PC or its history:
Check your disk, system files, file system:
    a. Hard Disk Sentinel is excellent - result right on its GUI. Covers SSDs too.
    b. If ok, run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    from an admin command prompt
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW

If those pass, proceed to an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps progs and data
(Tutorial available in the huge searchable Tutorial section - I have posted simple 4 line instructions many times)

For this you need an iso file of the same (unstated) major build as your Windows installation.

I will assume you don't have a relevant System Restore point, and that you haven't a recent disk image you could restore - the routine use if disk imaging is endlessly recommended here so you can get yourself out of many basic difficulties and have a full secure backup e.g. Macrium Reflect (free/paid) + large enough external disk for image file storage

If the excellent advice given by dalchina doesn’t correct the problem then please try the suggestions here:
Try Solution 9: Use the Preinstalled Apps Zip to Reinstall Microsoft Store: Windows 10 Store not Installed [FIXED] - Appuals.com
that doesn’t work then try the suggestion here: You can now install new Microsoft Store on Windows 10

    Hi dalchina,

Apologies for the late reply and thanks for the candid advice.

I have previously tried all of the solutions you offered. It seems an Upgrade In Place is my best. I have been reluctant to try as I have done it previously and it almost didn't work. At the very least it gave me a very nervous 10 of so hours while waiting for it to finish...

I was hoping for a more targeted solution this time to tide me over until I decide to do a clean install of Windows 11. Just waiting a bit longer.

    Thanks for the help.

Thanks. Given you don't know the cause of this (no history stated or any clues) you equally don't know what other damage there may be.

As you say you've tried all I gave you (including the two targetted tutorials) - and Bastet suggested one more.. and you now know your disk, file system and system files are intact having done those checks, then an in-place upgrade repair install is indeed the safest way to proceed.

    The Store shouldn't just 'disappear'....

When you do get back to a working configuration, ensure:
    - you immediately start a disk imaging regime
    - enable System Restore
    - consider having a restore point created on schedule (tutorial available)

    Hi Dalchina,

I have finally managed the time to try an Upgrade In Place. I was diagnosed with Covid this morning so I have the time).

I made sure my backups were solid, created a disk image and ran the upgrade in place from an iso file created with the Media Creation Tool. The upgrade ran smoothly, I then did the recommended Windows Updates etc.

Unfortunately I still have the same problem, no Microsoft Store. I have tried to do an WSReset. This gives a dialog box with the message; You'll need a new app to open this ms-windows-store link.

I then tried the Re-Register Microsoft Store App in Windows 10 and Reinstall and re-register apps in Windows 10 per the links in your post. I recieved the following error in PowerShell.Windows Store Missing - Can't get back-runtime-corrupted-01.jpg.

I haven't re-run chkdsk or SFC again as these returned no errors previously.

Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, sorry to hear about the Covid diagnosis. I won't ask if you've tried running an anti-virus program..

So far I've been lucky, and AFAIK, haven't had it- despite spending 6 weeks in 5 countries earlier this year (before air travel seemingly fell into utter chaos... well, even in April both my flight, 16 days before, and on the day, my train to the airport were cancelled).

Please confirm that before you performed the in-place upgrade you did these basic checks:
Check your disk, system files, file system:
    a. Hard Disk Sentinel is excellent - result right on its GUI. Covers SSDs too.
    b. If ok, run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    from an admin command prompt
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW
Assuming you created your image with M Reflect, then the intergrity of the data on your disk has been checked on a CRC basis.

If all the above is true, then it's really puzzling
    a. That your Store isn't present
    b. That you seem to have corruption now.

    Please try again running
    chkdsk c: /scan
    from an admin command prompt
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW

    and see what these report.

Considering the Powershell command - what happened to the " characters in
    Get-AppXPackage *Microsoft.WindowsStore* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
    ?

Please check the in-place upgrade repair completed successfully.
Post a screenshot of your Update History.
Do you have Windows.old present, and what's its creation date?

    If not, run setupdiag.exe

Thanks, yeah we have made it 2 and a half years without. Had to happen now that we are open for business again (we're in Western Australia).

Sill question - does Hard Disk Sentinnel support NvME drives? It tells me 8% of the reserved spare area used instead of the discovered bad sectors on the disk....No actions needed.

Chkdsk and SFC /SCANNOW found no errors.

I see what you mean about the " in the command. Not sure whats happening there. I manually changed them to " and re-run the command. Same result.

Ok, please see final checks in my previous on whether the in-place upgrade repair completed ok.

If it did, that suggests there's either something running that causes this problem, or something configured that's not affected by the in-place upgrade repair install.

HDS supports SSDs too.. I believe it has a database of drives, so that needs to be updated by the author.
If it showed green for the drive, and a good report, hopefully all is well.

Considering the error message which I have screen OCR'd for you (red is a poor colour here, alas)
Get-AppXPackage : The package runtime information is corrupted. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073055)

    - it's pointing to character 1.

Do you have something odd there?
    - and the error number has 0 results from Google...

    Try:
    Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    Thanks,

Yes the drive shows green in Hard Disk Sentinel.

    SetupDiag reports a successful upgrade.

    SetupDiag reports successful upgrade found.
This appears to be a successful update as the last operation was: 00BEBoot and the result was: success

The other shell command delivered the same error.

I'm not sure what you mean by - it's pointing to character 1, Do you have something odd there?

I also haven't been able to find anything of consequence re the error code.

For what it's worth I had my wife login to her account and the Microsoft Store runs fine.

    Many thanks again.
