apc powerchute on new hard drive with a fresh install windows 10

so long story short my hard drive died no boot issues I don't know last sun or what it was still working before I left home that basically

basically in a nutshell had to give it to my brother last tues and had to get new hard drive fan and supply fan he had to reinstall windows 10 again so I lost everything lucky he has a spare hard drive so whenever computer hard drive dies I got back up he has it sync every day every hour

anyways back to topic at hand I install apc powerchute Friday so it's new I still got apc battery backup hook up btw

I got some questions perhaps somebody can answer me instead waiting until mon chat with apc or call tech support

umm self test it saids automatically runs a self test battery backup every 2 weeks<- will still get notify that in windows action right, if so when will it start to do that 1 day this week or next

now since it's new I see click this button to verify that you unit is running functioning<-should I do that or just wait for it to start

2nd of all If a storm is a coming or about power about ready to go off I should still get notify apc power is running battery backup notification as well? i'm sure if I switch on/off red button power strip turn it back on while on computer I get that notification

3rd as I was looking at task manger I swore in the past there will be 3 things running start up apc power chute

i'm ony seeing 2 right now data collection launcher startup notification launcher don't remember 3rd one

I assumed when I do get notify either self test or apc running back up that will be 3rd thing underneath task manager right?

yes these are prob dumb questions normally I wouldn't be asking but again new hard drive with fresh reinstall windows 10 apc power chute is new and I haven't gotten notify on nothing as of yet

I hope my apc power chute ain't dead between 27th of last month to this past Friday because had drive died no boot issues

I hope somebody will saying something on this situation

The software has zero to do with how the backup works, it is just a method of managing the routines on the device. Your post is also difficult to get to the meaning of it since you are all over the place.

The best test to certify your UPS is working correctly is:

Pull the power cord while running.

Verify if notification works, verify alleged battery duration, configure auto shutdown at 25% remaining.

yeah i think my apc battery back up is dead i try unplug and replug and hit switch on red button computer shuts down

and green light won't go away just stays on i believe reason why dead is because left apc battery backup plug up even after hard drive died several days

i'm going to chat to apc mon and see what is the matter may have to get another apic battery backup because something isn't right

all I did was install powerchute personal edition again not sure what is the problem

    @y2jman -

    What APC unit is it?

Some consumer ones are "sealed" so if you are under warranty they will replace the entire unit.
The others have user replaceable batteries which you can easily do yourself.

    Check on this.

Also, download the latest version of the software from APC's website.

Some Units uses High Power Batteries (over 27 amps).

It is illegal to ship Back UPS with High power batteries Connected in the US and Canada.

Verify If your battery is connected internally in the UPS. Some have also a protection to prevent shortage when shipping, you will have to remove it and connect the battery.

I believe that it is a consumer product - end user.

well what I still don't know is to why when I came back home sun I was gone 3 days at brother house everything was working before left that Friday when I turn on monitor since I never shut off my computer btw

I had no signal I should had try to turn on and off again instead I press power button on/off on old hard drive when I do that I got computer message saying no boot device select proper boot device or insert boot media in select devices when my brother check bios he told me hard drive wasn't in there

i don't even know if there was a storm/power went off that weekend or what because usually i get notify powerchute personal edition that battery running backup and i would be able to resume/hibernate where left off computer wouldn't completely shut down

perhaps hard drive wasn't going to die reguardless new hard drive reinstall powerchute personal edition i try to hit switch red button usually when come back on turn off power and back on resume computer wants to shut down

perhaps i need to go into bios new hard drive to fixed problem then again perhaps my apc battery backup got fried last week and that why doesn't do what it supposed to do despite i got new hard drive windows 10 is reinstall

i will figure out what is the issue come tomorrow when i chat or called apc and yes i still haven't even gotten self test my old apc battery backup died and got new one 2017 over at office max current apc battery backup i have is ups 900

power chute persional edition is this keep my computer as long as possible 5 mins

and by default disable battery backup alarms when pc is in hibernation 8 am-8 pm

and on power sleep i got never screen when plug in turn off after

also never on sleep when plug in pc goes to sleep after

i always has those settings so what is going on why back up battery not responding like it should why it wants to shut down computer when power goes out or about to go out doesn't hibiniate/resume computer I don't get a notification from power chute about apc battery backup running on battery

    I do see apc
LAST STATE: When power is cycled on, the computer will either come on or stay off depending on whether it was On or Off when the power was lost. in bios

do I need to put this on instead last state?<-try that didn't work I did turn on and off button green light on apc backup I don't think it's dead

now just for a follow up I did do 1 thing around 2 am in morning I don't know what plug it was on apc battery backup but while power button was on green I unhook it hook back up I notice windows notifications setting found new driver and I did see 1st time powerchute notification indicate apc running backup battery

so as soon I did that I thought perhaps fixed but when I turn off power and back on in my room still computer shuts down why doing that I don't know I did once again take that same plug that was on apc backup battery plug back in again that time however no new drive and didn't see notification apc battery back up is running

i'm puzzle and don't know if again something happen last weekend while I was at brother house after left Friday came back home power jack up apc battery backup or what is it the actually battery or is unit itself is faulty

what do you think is problem? I don't even know if when I call or chat with apc folks today they can figure out away to resume/hibernate when power off and come back on anyways either they say unit is dead or battery am not sure

    @y2jman,
I'm not sure that I followed your posts, but I also have a APC UPS, and PowerChute installed on my system. I hope these comments will help.

The UPS itself is great. It passed the pull plug test. Last week, the lights in my office flickered for a bit, and I heard a "tick tock" sound from the UPS. My system was unaffected. PowerChute showed that my system was on battery power for five seconds. All good.

PowerChute itself is a mixed bag. When I Check for Updates, I always get an error message. And the UPS does NOT do a self-test every two weeks, as it is supposed to do. And APC tech support seems helpful but hasn't really addressed this issue to my satisfaction, but I simply don't have the time or patience to pursue this issue.
