I'm facing the same issue again on a different system. this time Unfortunately, the previous solution - running WSRESET, deleting some keys in the registry, and reboot, does not work in this case.

There are no traces of the Microsoft account under Settings/Your info, Email & accounts, Sign-in options, Access work or school, family & other users.

And yet I can't install anything from the Microsoft Store. The "Install" button does not show on free apps. I only see the "Get" button, which brings up the dialog to sign-in to a Microsoft account. The store does not remember what my Microsoft account account e-mail was. But it insists I enter one. If I click "X" to dismiss the dialog, the app won't install.

I just tested the creation of another local user, and could not download anything from the MS store either, unless I logged in to a Microsoft account, which I didn't, dismissing the prompt, and being denied Netflix and cat themes again.

I'm now running Win10 21H2. No longer 21H1. Could that be the difference ?

Just did an install of 21H2 in a VM. I was able to use the MS store without a Microsoft account.

Can't do this on my bare metal install of 21H2 anymore, somehow. WSRESET does not fix it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

In Windows 10 there is a regedit line where you have to replace a 1 with 0 ( or 0 with an 1 ).
Via that change you should be able to download from the store without logining.
Your topic is one I have a problem with in the past and did some searching about the Regedit to fix that problem.

Also you could join the Microsoft forums ( official Windows Phones ) which is a Microsoft Account and use that login credentials.

    ...................

About downloading Netflix. Netflix ( as with twitch ) are both independent programs/applications that you could download from many resources and will prompt to update. You should not need the store to install those. Amazon Prime was the same but now many newer windows blocks Prime from being installed and only via the store you can get it ( which is a waste of space to be honest ).
    ................

I just accessed the store without login into the other day. Most of it is junk to be honest, some nice games to waste time with, along with Ad-ware. I just wanted a painting application "Fresh Paint".

Again their are some articles but the Regedit, has a line you can edit. Again I forget the line.

Could you point me toward the regedit value in question?
I've signed out everywhere, tried Wsreset, unlinking my device in MS Account portal, nothing seems to work.
I'm on a fairly ancient Windows build as well, and Store looks about the same as it's always looked.

Update: What did end up fixing the issue for me was resetting the Store app.
Now I can install the free apps without an account again.
