    Link to MS Photos required.

    Hi
I use Vuescan scanning software & with it I can select a program (such as MS Photos) to view the scanned photos when scanning is complete.
For that I would need to enter the location of the MS Photos exe file however, there doesn't seem to be an exe file for MS Photos!
Can anyone suggest how I can solve this problem.

Hi, you may find it easier to download and install a traditional desktop photo viewer program that uses exe and dll files. Plenty of free ones around.

Photos: you need to understand that UWP apps provided from the Store use a completely different structure to conventional exe/dll programs. They do not use these.

Because they don't, nor do they take parameters (which is why, for example, 'mail to' (Mail Recipient in Send to) doesn't work if Mail is the default email client).

App Commands List for Windows 10

gives, for example, how to launch Photos from a command line:
    Link to MS Photos required.-1.jpg

I don't know if that method helps you with that particular program.

The photos app is also referred to as
    MicrosoftWindows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App
    in some contexts.

    Thanks but it didn't help.
So, I'm giving up with MS Photos but want to do the same with Windows Photo Viewer.
It's ideal because it does what it says: views photos without any editing capability & most importantly has the option: 'open with'.
It's perfect for my purposes - once a photo has finished scanning it's automatically opened in Windows Photo Viewer & from there I have the option to open it in my photo editing software: Affinity Photo.
Also there's the option to slideshow the photos.
The problem is that because there's no exe file I'm unable to point to it within Vuescan.
Doing some research I've found various command line options that will open Windows Photo Viewer & display a photo but these all require that a particular photo is specified such as:
    rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll", ImageView_Fullscreen C:\Windows\Web\Screen\img100.jpg
Since Viewscan allows me to scan a number of photos into a target folder & name them incrementally the above wouldn't work.
    Any ideas?

Windows Photos Viewer is an oddity; as I suggested, find a free downloadable image viewer you like, and use that.

One random list: (there are many such)
18 Best Free Image Viewer Software

I use a program in building my family tree- it lets me use an external viewer- simply whatever is set as default. Here you can see it displays the image in Photoviewer. I imagine Vuescanner requires you to specify the path literally.

    Yes, Vuescan requires a path.
Yeah, I've looked at loads of other photo apps & none of them suffice - almost all have editing capability which I don't want since I may as well open them in Affinity Photo.
Oh well, I wish I knew how I configured Vuescan on my old PC where it all worked fine.
I'm in contact with the author now so I'll see how it goes.
    Thanks

As dalchina says, photoviewer (as it is called using a dll) for example will not accept Quotes to open a specific file path which has spaces using eg "%1" like so:
    rundll32.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll", ImageView_Fullscreen "%1"
    (this will not work)

But if you only want to start a sort of slideshow to a particular folder (provided it contains images only-otherwise it will go through all files but throw an error on no-image files). To start a slideshow you can try/test

    rundll32.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll", ImageView_Fullscreen C:\full path to all images\

(without any quotation marks around the "path name")

Thanks but it wouldn't work for me.
In Vuescan I create a folder (anywhere - no particular name)
I point Vuescan at the that folder for saving scans.
When the scan's complete it opened up the image in Photo Viewer - no location or file name required.

Thanks Dalchina. I'll give it a try.
