    Photo Viewer app???

    Hi;
I updated a friends comp to win10 from win8.1, now all her pics are missing info.
She swears she was using windows photo viewer and had all her pics titled and dated. This is different from file name.
Win10 photo app does not show the title/Subject or date. I tried opening the pics using Photo Viewer but they do not show title or date on it either.
The info is in the pics under details, (see attached)
What program/app can I use that will show the info in the viewer?
What settings do I have to change?

This is exactly why I hate updating or repairing someone else’s PC. Now I always do 2 FULL Macrium reflect image backups first, then worst case scenario I can revert it back exactly as it was, too late now for you, if you didn’t do this, but worth noting.

regarding the images, I had a similar issue, where when changing the subject field the title field changed also, then a day or so later it suddenly was ok again, then the problem retuned a few days ago and then again back to normal...very confusing....I have 3 complete back ups of all my data inc photos, so only when I am happy all is ok do I update ONE of the backups, sounds paranoid but essential I think.

this post has a similar issue although I think it’s not what you are experiencing
File Explorer fails to show metadata?

I believe that if you haven’t deleted the windows OLD folder you can roll back to Windows 8.....
Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10

    good luck

P.S. It might suddenly revert and come back to normal, no scientific basis behind that, but my PC doesn’t follow the laws of science.

I do not think that Windows photo viewer ever gave that info. But in your properties microsoft windows live photo gallery is listed. Maybe your friend is referring to that. See:

I can not get Windows Live Photo Gallery to install.
When I click on get help with this it just takes me to Outlook page.
MySQL server light (seems to be 2005 ver) does not seem to be compatible with win 10 so I did not install it.

    Am I missing something?

You can try this, but I can't guarantee is will work. And I don't use Windows Live.

How to Use Windows Live Photo Gallery on Windows 10?

    Good luck.

    Thanks to all.
The above links did not work, it would not install, but I did find a link for Windows Essentials that did.
Sadly Microsoft no longer supports Photo Gallery.
Is there another Photo app that uses and shows the info created in Photo Gallery?
The popular ones Photo Viewer, Irfanview, XNview, Piccasa, Fastone sadly do not.

    TIA

Yeah, I figured that, but figured I'd post that link anyway. That said, you can get the old Photo Viewer back (though it actually is still installed, but only opens when opening tiff files) - Restore Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10

I use Adobe's apps - Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge which reads the meta data. I don't rely on other apps to do this.

    Good luck.
