Windows Unable to Launch Applications After Updating to 1809

Hello all, I work in IT at a small town bank and I have been experiencing a strange issue lately. We delay new updates for a period of time when they come out and make sure they will work before deploying them, so we are updating to 1809 now. The issue I am having is so far two of my computers that I updated, the install seemed to work fine, but when I login the computer is slow, applications don't launch anymore, and I have at least 700 instances of Windows error reporting running in the background, I restored both back to 1803 but I am stumped as to why this is happening. I have been doing some research but I have not found anything yet, the only thing similar between these computers is that they are both Dell, but they are not even the same model. Anyone else run into this issue and have any advice or anything for me?

to put it plain and simple its the drivers , windows upgrade has a habit of tossing all you have and installing a set of their faulty own that might cripple the machine until you disable auto updating drivers if you have pro version and installing your working set or latest from manufacturer . a mean to lighten the pain is to use an offline ESD copy to upgrade the current version while unplugged from the internet which limits but not eliminate the tinkering it does to drivers . of these i recommend you check first the graphics and the Intel RAID drivers , faulty RAID let alone can hinder disk IO from 100 MB/s on a regular HDD to few MBs and same can happen with SSDs surprisingly .

Okay, now do the raid drivers still matter if the computer does not have a RAID setup?

Very , because the name is miss-leading , they bundle the SATA Controller driver along the RAID one and still call it the RST RAID driver . Manufacturers never release the SATA Controller driver as a stand alone driver for a vague reason beyond me . Also as shadow of things to come 1809 had massive alteration in disk IO that requires an updated version of the driver to handle , so if the manufacturer did not release an updated driver around 09/2018 you might want to look up generic one designated for each mother board series in hand but luckily i assume most banking setups have similar machines bought in batches so its gonna be one/two driver(s) fits all (hopefully) .
