How To Create a Custom Shortcut to a Store App in \WindowsApps

In trying to overcome an apparent Windows 10 bug that makes some icons tiny vs other created shortcuts on the desktop, I thought it better to simply create a new icon, and then use it in creating a desktop link shortcut to the app.

For this example I'm looking at the SiliconDust Tuner/DVR's associated "HomerunHD" menu launcher/app, downloaded and installed successfully from the Windows Store. its path is
    C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\EF712BA7.HDHomeRunDVR_1.1.271.0_x64__23nna27hyxhag\

What is the syntax for a shortcut "Target" that will actually open/execute the App? If I seek the properties of a shortcut "placed on the desktop" the easy way, the Target path cannot be copied; it is grayed out.
    ?

    help pls
    thx
    C

I think I noticed a thread about creating a custom shortcut to an app recently, but can't find it right now.

sticky problem... I read where people are having to come up with registry hacks to get at the apps downloaded from the Windows Store. The directory is verbotten, but one can take ownership of it [and probably get errors forever in the system log] but that still doesn't solve because they don't have one file to point to as target.

as to the other bug, unrelated to source of the application, or the target for the shortcut [just a simple web link sometimes] - really odd issue. there is a hidden rectangular box around the icon, with icon shrunken down within the box, so merely changing the icon produces yet another icon inside an invisible box, that defies "right-sizing" to the same scale as the other icons on the desktop.

What all this leads up to is the use of HDTV or other big monitor, where the user is simply trying to "consume" content - a custom desktop / virtual-desktop that can be seen from 12 feet or so, with a pointing device to navigate [cellphone]

It's possible, because using Classic Shell/Open Shell and right-clicking any Store App will send a tiled shortcut to the desktop. Not intending to open up cans of worms re CS or OS, just mentioning it does do this well, so it's possible.

That's true and I goofed if implied otherwise ... i'm looking at one right now on my desktop and pinned to the taskbar. what I can't figure out how to do is right-size it. What I have not tried is 3rd party icon editor.

Can you zip that desktop shortcut and post it? I's like to try something.

hmmm... Do you mean the *.lnk file? That's easy, but not the object itself. i have it on the Start menus
[list, recent, tablet-tile] but don't see a way to spot the properties, and when pinned to the taskbar same issue. What is the file/type/extension?

    try this

this only has the various .png files that were in the package, in ProgramFiles/WindowsApps, and the current desktop shortcut lnk

one of these .png's would work, i think, if it could scale. how do I replace the lnk with, say the 150x150 png as image?
the most maddening thing here, as you may see, is that in pulling the properties of the *.lnk, the path is long, not all visible, and grayed out where I cannot copy the blasted thing!

Ok, here's what I've done. I converted the 150x150 .png to a .ico. Copied a shortcut of CCleaner I had on desktop just to test with. Changed the Icon in properties to the HD logo. Pinned to taskbar. Is this kinda what you are trying to do? This was just a stab at it.

This is the .png > .ico converter I used. Little standalone app been around for years. Just drag 'n drop images on it.
