    Help please -- Simians / Gorilla's /Apes Music conversion

    Hi there

I have found in my archives a whole slew of APE type files with the .cue and log files.

What's the easy way to convert these to .flac or even .wav

I know cuetools used to be able to do this but I can't seem to find the link any more to pick the latest version up.

Some of these old music files for me are just not obtainable any more so I really want to keep them. There's some really rare classical music amongst that lot that even the BBC haven't got (maybe I could squeeze some money out of their - usually excellent BBC R3 - service) !!!!"

I think the old Gorilla music (ape files) was Apple Lossless format but that was years ago so how to convert it ????

This music is DRM free though so no probs on that score. Nothing illegal about this request --simply want way to convert to .flac or .wav for legally obtained music.

Some of this stuff is quite rare -- out of availability for years so getting it back playable again would be great.

    Suggestions appreciated.

    Cheers

Trader's Little Helper is a free program converts ape files to flac.
And a program with more options is dBpoweramp.

MediaMonkey plays .ape, and you can convert them with it too.

    MediaMonkey Free
    Record & Convert

Record CDs to your hard drive using the high quality LAME MP3 encoder*, M4A encoder*, OGG encoder, WMA encoder, FLAC encoder or ALAC encoder). MediaMonkey’s CD Ripper copies the CDs, automatically filling in track properties via freedb.
Convert audio / video files from almost any audio / video format and preserve tag information**, using the MP3 converter, AAC/M4A converter, OGG converter, WMA converter, WAV converter, FLAC converter, ALAC converter, AVI (MPEG4) converter, WMV converter, and MP4 (H.264) converter.
    * The MP3 encoder is limited to 30 days in the free version. The M4A, AVI, and MP4 encoders are available separately and are limited to 30 days unless purchased.
** Tags are preserved for MP3, AAC/M4A, OGG, WMA, WAV, APE, FLAC, ALAC, MPC, WMV, AVI, MP4, MKV.

    Hi folks

    Thanks for all the suggestions

have found latest version of CUE TOOLS -- converts to tracks as well and tags then from the .cue file when the whole piece of music is encoded as a single file.

take the .cue file in the original directory (.ape and .cue)

run cue tools to convert to flac and tracks

output now tagged and in .flac works perfectly and runs in seconds.

You need though the original .cue file as well as the.ape file -- also works for other formats ripped as a single file.

Thanks for all the suggestions though. When I did the original rip I had the .cue / log file so all OK here.

    Cheers

    Sounds cool.
Losing tags, and having to redo them, is a real pain, and sometimes tedious task.
