Corning has unveiled its latest version of Gorilla Glass, the toughened glass used for the displays of billions of consumer gadgets.
The fifth version of Gorilla Glass, which is due this autumn, should offer relief for fumble-fingered selfie-takers. Punishment to the glass during Corning's lab tests demonstrated it can survive a 1.6 metre (five foot) drop up to 80 percent of the time.
Scratches and cracks to screens are annoying, but consumers' biggest worry about dropped phones is the glass shattering -- and that's what Corning's scientists have been aiming to prevent with each new version. I've never understood why so much effort is put into making tougher glass for phones instead of developing a more highly scratch-resistant polycarbonate (Lexan is one trade name) that would be unlikely to break no matter how far it was dropped. Or maybe phone manufacturers prefer something that is breakable since it improves their chances for sales.
Because Lexan still has susceptibility to small scratches, in larger pieces can look "wavy" and still has hazing issues.
Then put effort into fixing those polycarbonate issues.

Love the idea of Gorilla Glass -but I think anybody using selfie sticks should be electrocuted at least with 300,000 Volts.
Fortunately now loads of Sports stadiums and tourist centres are now banning Selfie sticks --get back to taking REAL photos again --in any case what can you do with a "Selfie stick" that you can't do better in Photoshop anyway --lack of education of modern generation I suppose.

whats the difference between aero glass
I used Lexguard type of Lexan on my boat and it was very scratch resistant, almost as glass, bulletproof too. There's another amazing product called Lucite that has much better optical characteristics than best glass. Used it in some inspection instruments like bore inspectors. A 3' (1 meter) long and didn't loose any optical properties while providing natural light to the bottom of the bore. That material could be poured or molded without any machining. Expensive and scratchy though but very strong.
Someone... maybe Toshiba, was supposed to market an advanced coating for plastic that's very resistant to small scratches. I saw the announcement a couple of years back, but never again.
