    Cyberlink and Media Survailence

Recently I experienced a four day Internet outage.

Cyberlink is my only video player.

During the outage I could not play any DVD videos.

I find it distressing that Cyberlink seems to be tracking my viewing down to the minute or less.

Do other such media players do the same thing?

Any player recommendations for watching DVD's without connecting to the Internet?

Thanks for your replies and suggestions.

Use free VLC player. Will play DVDs and CDs. If there's any kind of media file it can't play, I haven't found it. - https://www.videolan.org/vlc/

    Mike,

I have Cyberlink PowerDVD and I do not need the internet to play videos or any kind.
    - You have not said what happens if you try to play videos without an internet connection.
    - Perhaps there is something set in the application's options that is causing the unwanted behaviour.

    Thanks again Denis.

I could not easily find any settings.
If you know where they are I will have a look.

I like the VLC for the cross platform capabilities. I downloaded it.

Someday I will put trying to play some videos with and without the Internet using both players on the to-do list.

The DVD I was watching at the start of outage froze at that moment. I tried it the next day. Same thing. . Maybe I should have pulled the RJ45 and had another go?: Did not think about that in my distress in loosing contact with the world!

Hopefully we will not have any more intense fires that melt the fiber optic lines.

    Mike,

In Cyberlink PowerDVD v8, Options contains -
1 A Player tab with a checkbox for Automatically connect to the internet for product information.
2 A MoovieLive tab with checkboxes for Auto sign in to Moovelive & Enable advanced features [with an explanation that also refers to the internet].
I cleared all these checkboxes without ever trying them out to find out what they did.

You might not have the same thing in your version but you might discover equivalents.

I am having trouble finding the options settings page you speak of Denis..

I did not see anything in Control :Panel or have any luck clicking on the response in the Charms(?) list under the Window key.

Could kindly provide some path details?

    Thanks

I was referring to the Options within Cyberlink PowerDVD v8. I know nothing about other versions.
