Thanks! This got me into the machine, and I can see that Windows 10 Home is activated.
Unfortunately, Windows won't let me do anything with the existing users account. It also won't let me create...
I just upgraded a laptop for a friend from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Now we are unable to log in.
Originally, the Windows 8 machine reported that there was an issue with the Microsoft account, but...
That is what I thought. The clone was messing up the EFI partition.
I was able to work around the issue. I did a new Windows 10 install on the SSD, getting up to the point where it is asking what...
UEFI-GPT and all partitions were cloned.
This isn't directly Windows related, but I am cloning a disk with only Windows 10 on it and I'm having issues... System isn't booting at the moment so I can't determine the Windows version.
I have...
Hard to migrate away from FDD and SCSI when you are working on C64's, Atari ST's, Amigas, et al.
So... my status so far...
I was able to install Windows 10 from a DVD. I could not get it to boot from a USB stick.
I used my Windows 8.1 Pro key to install. Windows 10 Pro installed without me...
I have an old PC, based on a Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3 mainboard with an Athlon 64 3800+ CPU and four gig of memory. It is currently running Windows XP SP3. I would like to install Windows 10 Home 64bit on...
I finally just left the Windows firewall running. If it causes issues, I will deal with it then.
The only way I could resolve this is with a fresh Windows installation.
The drive was damaged. There was no way to image it. I was able to do a clean install of Windows on the SSD and then copy files from the drive.
I could find no solution to this request. It would make a great addition to the OS to be able to associate a specific data file to a specific executable.
It appears that the drive was corrupted somehow, or configured with a third party utility. I was able to zero the drive and get it working again.
This issue was never resolved, and I no longer need the solution.
The only solution that I found was to use an old Windows XP computer for that software.
Follow up... they decided to just use PINs, so this question is now moot.
I finally found the culprit here. It was the DOCK that the laptop was mounted in. Swapped it for an identical one and the issue is gone. I now have perfect video and audio.
Turns out the second hub in the unit had failed. It's defective and trashed.
I have had a request to program a GUI with specific design elements that would replace the EXPLORER.EXE that Windows 10 uses for the desktop. Is this even possible to do? The machine should boot...
I have borrowed a 28" 4K display and moved the HDMI cable from my 40" TV to the 28" display. I am seeing the same issue with my laptop here that I saw on my 40" TV. My Windows 11 PC still works fine...
There are no diagnostics I can run on the TV, and none of the computer diagnostics find anything.
I have definitely disconnected power from all the devices for an extended period to be sure that...
My Windows 10 laptop has started doing some odd audio and video stuff lately. This is an HP zBook laptop with Intel UHD 620 along with a Radeon Pro WX 3100 display hardware. This laptop shares a 40"...
The laptop has DisplayPort output and the display only has HDMI input. I don't think the laptop has HDMI - but I will check later today. The KVM does the conversion from DisplayPort to HDMI for both...
I have an HP ZBook 15u G5 laptop, which has Intel UHD Graphics 620 hardware as well as Radeon Pro WX3100 video hardware. I also have my desktop PC that is using a nVidia 3060 RTX video card. Both of...
I am setting up a Windows 10 PC for some friends. They do not want to have to enter any password to get into their accounts. They simply want to turn on the computer, click on one of the users names...
No joy. :(
