I run a laptop PC with Windows 11 and a desktop PC with Windows 10. The laptop was originally Windows 10 but I updated it to Windows 11 in December 2021. The desktop was originally Windows 7. I updated it to Windows 10 when it was initially offered an update, about 9 years ago.
My daily driver is the laptop PC with windows 11. I often have several apps running and don't want to disturb them. So I use "hibernate". I just close the lid and walk away. When I open the lid, and poke the power button, everything comes back to the state, before I closed the lid. It only takes about 15-20 seconds and I'm ready to go again. The only time I reboot is after an update. I have KB5036980 waiting to be downloaded and installed. When it is convenient, I will install and reboot.
My desktop PC is on all the time, but the remote mouse and keyboard are off, when not in use. It's not used as much as my laptop PC, so I just let a update install and reboot, whenever it comes along. When I turn the mouse/keyboard back on, and hit the escape button, I'm ready to go. It usually does a update and reboot at night when I am asleep. I never actually see it happen. I only know it updated and rebooted because it's at the login prompt.
I don't much care for Windows 10, but the PC is missing something and won't update to Windows 11. One of these days I may try one of the work arounds and try it on Windows 11. If I break it, that's ok. It served it's purpose. I'll just buy a new one.
I still have a small laptop that runs Windows 3.1. No updates to worry about there. I use it when I need to run in DOS mode and need a real RS-232 port. It's a bit pokey, but still works. I don't have any need for the internet, with that laptop, so it always just runs stand-alone.
