Task Manager showing multiple instances of the same apps/programs

Hello please have a look at the uploaded images above. You can clearly see that most of the programs are being shown multiple times in my task manager. Sometimes it 2 and sometimes more then that. The svchost.exe alone has almost 73 instances being shown in the task manager. The same is for Discord only one instance of it is running on my pc and the task manager is showing Discord to be running 6 times at the same time. There are many others which are being shown in the screenshots. I have deleted only the ones that I know of. Most of them I do not even know which software/app they belong to.

I have Emisisoft Anti-Malware running on my pc and it shows no viruses or malware on my pc.

Can someone please tell me what there are so many instances of the same program being shown in the task manager. This multiple programs are definitely draining resources of my pc. Also if someone can explain the various programs being run on my pc which I can get rid of from my task manager list please let me know. Thanks in advance.

That is of no significance. Just accept it. It's just how Windows works.

You can probably find guidance online & much of it might be fairly reliable but it is a lot of work for no tangible benefit.

Alot of the duplicates are background processes, most of which are identified as their parent app....this happens quite regularly and in general doesn't cause any problems unless there are so many that it is eating up all your ram or cpu cycles, in which case you need to do some housekeeping....

One big, well known example is Chrome... at any given point in time, my task mgr shows between 3 & 15 instances of it, even when I only have 1 tab open.... I can/could manually kill all but the main one, but the others start running again as soon as I navigate to a new website or open a 2nd tab....so I don't waste my time with it, and won't unless my machine would start lagging badly for some reason, which it does NOT do, since I run a minimal OS install, have 64GB of ram, a total 8TB of drive storage, and an 11th gen cpu....

It used to be the case that far fewer instances of svchost.exe appeared- then MS made a change for the sake of system stability.

A simple Google search shows your question is asked by
    many
    many
    many
    many people

    - and there are some completely rubbish answers as well as some good ones, like:

There is no need to worry if too many svchost.exe process running in your Windows 10 computer. Its absolutely normal and a feature by design. Its not any issue or problem in your computer.

Svchost.exe is known as “Service Host” or “Host Process for Windows Services“. Its a system process which is used by several Windows services since the release of Windows 2000 operating system. In previous Windows versions, several similar services were combined into a single svchost.exe process to reduce overall system resources consumption. But since the release of Windows 10 Creators Update, this behavior has been changed. Now in newer Windows 10 versions, the services which were grouped in previous Windows versions, are separated and run in their own Svchost process.

Related: Check changes found in Windows 10 build 14942 in our Changelog topic.

This change has been implemented to increase system stability, reliability and security. When services were grouped in a single svchost.exe process, one service crash could affect the other services running in the same process group. Now when services are separated and using their own host process, it improves the stability and reliability of Windows 10 machine.

They will make use of computer resources that are not being used by anything else at any given time.
Windows should always give priority to your applications & it inhibits background processes in order to do so.

I therefore disagree that "you need to do some housekeeping".
Windows is constantly doing the housekeeping for you.
You can just focus on the applications you need to run to do the jobs you want to do.
