Hi, I am trying to fix an error of HP diagnostics not working.

I do not know which section to post it in. I am using windows 10 64 bit. and it is home edition version 21H2.

so i have asked HP support. i do not really think that it is related to HP specifically. Their diagnostics stopped working in windows after the following:
-a microsoft tech set windows update to download optional driver updates and some recent updates for windows 10 (like a net update and other windows 10 update).
-i installed a firewall and antivirus.

i adjusted the firewall, and reset my system, and found that some programs that were not running would run. the firewall seems to stop programs sometimes due to the setting.

However, I also found that there is an error like this:
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation

Something like that, and the event log also shows that HP diagnostics crashes now. There is a reference to some hardware not working suddenly, but i noticed something like reference to some drivers. The only drivers changed were those updated by the tech. I am trying to find out if i can undo that. I just want to change these conflicts without resetting the whole system.
I do not know specifically what drivers were installed, besides it says "HP components" etc. so the event viewer seems to show why programs might not run besides the potential security software. i do not think it is the antivirus software, since the event viewer keeps saying "a device connected" and also references drivers, as well as the error like that link.

it is showing software and hardware conflicts that are new. Please advise if you know how to correct it without reinstalling windows. Thank you.

    Which firewall was installed?

    Which Antivirus was installed?

i adjusted the firewall, and reset my system, and found that some programs that were not running would run. the firewall seems to stop programs sometimes due to the setting.

    What type of reset?

Reset save files or something else?

However, I also found that there is an error like this:

Something like that, and the event log also shows that HP diagnostics crashes now.

Which HP diagnostics is crashing and what do you see?

Please post images with error messages and codes.

Is this HP Windows hardware diagnostics or HP UEFI hardware diagnostics or both?

There is a reference to some hardware not working suddenly, but i noticed something like reference to some drivers.

    Which hardware was reported problematic?

Was this after a hang or freeze?

The only drivers changed were those updated by the tech. I am trying to find out if i can undo that. I just want to change these conflicts without resetting the whole system.

I am having trouble accessing the tune-up plus link. I have tried different browsers to access it. Do you have an alternate link? It takes me to the homepage.

Sorry, some of the links are not working > reported problems to our administrator and awaiting possible fixes

This is an older tune up and can be used for now:

    V2 Log

I have this. For the Tune Up Plus, i was able to run it, but i didn't understand how to export the log. it fixed something. Is there a way I can find it? windows updater diagnostic did not find anything, and then the last link said something like it wasn't found.

    The log files displayed:

    A) two unexpected shutdowns and restarts.
They were on 04/16 and 04/28.
There were no BSOD seen in the log files.

    B) insufficient Windows drive free space

    C) a BIOS version that is not up to date

    D) problems related to each Mcafee and Avast antivirus

The tuneup script may produce a text report automatically.
A script completion popup usually displays the location of the report too.

Please perform the following steps: (in sequence)

    1) Increase the free space on the Windows drive so that there is > 30GB free space

    2) Uninstall Avast software using the applicable uninstall tool:

Avast Removal Tool | Download Avast Clear | Avast

    3) Uninstall McAfee software using the applicable uninstall tool:

    4) Uninstall Malwarebytes using the applicable uninstall tool:

    https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/...s-Support-Tool

    5) Make sure that Microsoft defender is on

    6) Download and install Everything:

    voidtools

    7) Run:

    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...p_plus_log.bat

View the popup message at the completion of the script.
Use Everything software as needed to find the script results.

So bad, total and utter chaos

Too many instances in contents to quote and answer each one. Suffice it to say ....
    - proprietary programs for monitoring/checking software/hardware are a waste of time and often cause more problems. Frequently result in false positives that cause a user to take inappropraite, or even incorrect, action
    - "microsoft tech"? Why this intervention? Why this choice ?
    - "adjusted the firewall" ? Why this course of action ? On what/whose advice ?
    - "avast" "mcafee" ? One (either) = bad, both = catastrophic. Affect on system could quite easily result in system software reporting errors (that probably don't exist).
    - etc
    - etc

My recommendation : swap out the drive for a new blank drive and do a clean install of Windows 10 (i.e. NO proprietary bloatware gets installed) Do no re-install either Avast or McAfee. = Perfect system.

(Note swapping out the drives means you've still got the old drive to copy data (ONLY, not programs), or to reconnect in case of emergency. When the new system is up and running, wipe the old drive and use as an external backup destination.

i got a question. The other day, there was exactly 30 gb space on the hard drive. Then I did something like fixed Garmin Express, but in regards to that, it probably was more like I ran it in safe mode, restarted the system, then it updated. However, that program does not seem to take up a lot of space. I also reinstalled HP Diagnostics. All of the sudden, my Hard Drive went from 30 GB to 19 GB. So then I used some windows program to clear up some temporary files. it went to 23 gb. I am not really sure what exactly loaded up the hard drive with space from what looked like mainly reinstalling HP diagnostics, as Garmin Express didn't seem to do much of anything. That program was not running in windows like HP Diagnostics. Also, I see that the Hard drive went back to 19 GB again. Those versions of HP diagnostics and support assistant may be part of what is dumping a lot of memory. it didn't seem to do it initially until after something like removing other temporary files, and then restarting the system and trying to put it back. i can do those steps, but i would like to ask about that. i do not know if it is relevant, but windows also installed a new security update that was not even downloaded (from my observation), after i removed one that was installed on 4/17. it looked like on 4/29, one automatically installed when i uninstalled a different one, as if maybe it was in update temporary files. i reset the system when i uninstalled the update, then it updated to a new update, but windows said it was fully updated.

i don't know. this was all done about 4/29.

I suspect your system has reached 9/11.

It appears you have boldly gone to system places where no-one else should go.

i am sorry, but i think it is due to windows update. i barely installed anything new lately on my system. i would like to fix it, and i would like to know how to fix it and if i need to remove something like the last windows updates, and somehow disallow it. Not too long ago, I had much more space on my hard drive. I also had the trial of Mcafee live safe, but i cannot afford it right now, so i have switched to free software to monitor it myself. But sometime after these updates, and installing free security software, space decreased. But also when tech support came to help me with MS Edge problems, which seemed to be due to an Edge AI update (which i disabled their bot likely to stop it), these windows updates seemed to disable other programs. I found that the firewall settings partially disabled some programs without some permissions being enabled since it stops traffic. But somehow, installation files are filling up space like some kind of cache files. They seem to be up to 11 GB of files. I cannot buy a new computer system. i will have to get rid of things, but for me, i will have to roll back windows updates. if somebody can help me fix permissions and i can try to get rid of some things, this will be appreciated. I did not think my system was advertised with the smaller hard drive to be primary, but due to this factor, and the fact of conflicts of software, etc, i probably need to remove updates. That is what it appears like to me. It looks like they take up too much space. i may need to get a better system when i can afford it , but i cannot right now. your time is appreciated.
