"microsoft windows" not responding - huge lag issue?

so recently i got some new issue where everything lags like 5-6 minutes straight and i have no idea what could be causing it or how to fix it...
first it all works totally normally, but then it suddenly starts lagging really bad - so if i try to open up a program, it takes really long time and i dont even know if its 6 or 8 minutes, because i just go and do something else instead...

i even tried to reinstall the av program, thinking that it might be the main cause of it, but that did not fix the issue...

so it basically pops up the small "ms windows not responding" window with "end process" and "wait" etc...
and after a while, it also stops loading all websites, so i cant even open a simple webpage (it just keeps loading it for some reason)
(its the latest win10 with all updates etc... probably 21h2 then if 22h2 is the recent newest one...)

    - - - Updated - - -

PS: now it even seemed to load the 10forum link for 6+ minutes again, but once it got going, i did not have any lag posting the thread, while opening up another and different page/domain took like 3 minutes to load up again... (and loads up all of the links really fast in there too now)

It's just the latest Cumulative Update KB5023696.
No worries, just wait until it completes.

    These are at monthly intervals.

In the Task Manager you will find that "Windows modules installer worker" at the top of the Disk usage column.

i dont have any of that currently running and the issue has been going on for 2-3 days imo, so i dont think that it would take that long for an update to finish.
the version is actually 22h2 tho, so im not sure where did i even read that its the very recent update and not even released yet or smth...

    How old is the laptop?
Old laptops can have their CPU heat sink clogged with dust. CPU overheats and then the clock is reduced to protect the CPU.
Do you have a hardware monitor?
It can also be a drive issue.
    Lets do the basic.
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and ask if you want to schedule to next start = yes
    Restart

Back to Windows, open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    sfc /scannow

If it finds any corrupted files, fixing or not, reboot and run again
    Then run
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    and
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

How much free space do you have on C: ?

When you are experiencing this problem what does the task manager show?
    Post a screenshot.

And by way of a baseline, log in, launch nothing extra, wait 3 mins, then post a screenshot of your task manager showing resource usage.

    Check your (entire physical) disk(s):
Hard Disk Sentinel (full functional trial) is excellent. Crystal diskinfo (free) - basic SMART check.

its the big atx pc tower, 6gb+ free space on the main partition, 0-3% hw usage etc... cpu is 3900x, 32gb ram(5,7gb in use) etc...

i can probably try the sfc scan command later when i close an installer that got hung up in all of this mess(writes 1kb in 10 minutes or smth), but what does the Dism command do?
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

its some 512gb ssd, but i think that it wont even open the disk cleanup app with this kind of lag lol.
the sfc scan did "do" something, but even that did not fix the issue...

    Boot to Safe Mode.

Do you still experience this 'lag'?
