CMOS battery holds the BIOS configuration sets and keep the clock running, even if the computer is off.
When the battery is discharged, you loose the BIOS configuration (it loads the defaults) and date and time is corrupted.
When you start the computer, check time on the taskbar. As your computer is a new Z270, I don't think that the battery is discharged.
You can run HWinfo. It's a portable, don't need to install, extract and run. Launch Sensors only and under voltages you'll see Vbat that should be higher than 3 v.
Under power configuration you can set the time to computer to hibernate. Turning it off doesn't mean that it wont do a fast start (hybrid hibernation)
To turn off all kind of hibernation, on all power plans, (fast start will also be disabled) open a CMD window as administrator and type
powercfg.exe /hibernate off
