Slow boot caused by Secure Boot

I recently added an NVMe SSD to my laptop to use as the system drive. But boot was slow, averaging about 65 seconds from pushing the start button to the Windows desktop. Turning off Secure Boot got boot time down to about 24 seconds. Still not creating any records, but at least much better. How important is it to have Secure Boot functioning? Is there anything I could do to speed up boot times with it turned on?

Perhaps a fairer comparison is boot to lock screen... boot to desktop so much depends on what you have chosen to have starting up.

Like dalchina said, it all depends on how many apps you have starting with Windows. A more relevant test would be, how long for a clean boot. Then you might try with and without Secure boot enabled.

Do you have any third-party antivirus installed?

For security purposes / malware protection it's best to use secure boot:

If fast startup is on, see if turning off fast startup makes any difference.
    Then use clean boot.

Thanks, dalchina, W10 Tweaker and zbook. Everything seems to be OK now. A repair install seems to have done it. I had originally cloned the system drive from HDD to NVMe SSD. Secure Boot was apparently not seeing what it expected and was taking longer than usual for its examination. I turned it back on after the repair install and cold boots are now running 14 or 15 seconds to the lock screen, not great but at least acceptable.

Another angle that may or may not be affecting things is unequal memory in 2 slots. The laptop has 12GB of ram in 8GB and 4GB modules. That likely hurts interleaving, but I don't know how much or even if it would come into play in booting. I'll see soon when I get another 8 to replace the 4.
