Startup takes too long at Winlogon Init

My laptop with Windows 10 1909 used to show desktop immediately after typing in the password. Recently after doing updates, it takes about 25 seconds to get to desktop after entering password. Laptop is using NVME drive. I have traced the boot using WPR and couldn't figure out what is wrong. Really appreciate any help.

Hi, first check if the service App Readiness has somehow been set to Automatic. If it has, stop it and set it to Manual.

Otherwise: if you look at your Update History, including drivers (at the bottom), to which updates are you referring? I assume you mean you had build 1909 before this problem started.

Noted the download is well over 1Gb.

Have you tried uninstalling the update(s) in question?

What is your current build number? (The forum prompted you for this when you wrote your post).

Your laptop appears to be a Lenovo ThinkPad T470 from around 2017.

I just checked and app readiness is already manual and stopped. You are correct it is thinkpad t470. 1909 is already the build when I noticed the problem. I did uninstall the updates including the printer driver which was installed recently but still stuck with slow boot. I have been trying to read the trace from Windows Performance Recorder and I couldn't figure out at all.

Ok, have you tried a clean boot?

Do you have a restore point you could use? (Probably too late for that now..)
Otherwise, do you have a recent disk image you could restore?
(tenforums members tirelessly recommend the routine use of disk imaging so you can restore to a previous good state).

And what happens if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user?

If you wished, you could set services to default using Tweaking.com's free repair tool.

About the only member here who has experience of reading WPR reports is @zinou if still around.

    Hi,

Your boot trace shows that your logon phase took 31s, and 26s was spent loading your user profile.

There is a lot of CPU and disk activities there, generated by the svchost (1580) process.

A quick look at its call stack shows that it's spending most of its time loading the user profile, reading the C:\Users\heinl\Appdata\local\Temp\ path content.

I suggest you delete all the C:\Users\heinl\Appdata\local\Temp\ content, restart your computer and see if it helps.otherwise, you can create a new user profile as suggested by @dalchina

Hi Zinou, how do you get the details of the logon phase like you have in the first screenshot? Can't manage to find it on WPA.

@zinou BIG thanks for fixing a problem i spent weeks trying to fix myself... I would love to know what software you used to display that graph of yours.
To everyone else waiting for nearly 2 minutes for their Login screen to appear OR their Login to go through: Deleting the contents of your AppData temp folder should fix the issue, as suggested by zinou.

@thgc thanks and welcome to Tenforums. The tool I use to troubleshoot this kind of performance issues is Windows Performance Toolkit. it's a free Microsoft tool.
