Dust Clean out on HP Omen Gaming Laptop

Managed to get the Dust cleaned out of the fans just barely eariler, except couldn't get the cover fully off, as one darn screw refused to come out, Not sure if i had the right size screwdriver or not. For birthday coming on 21st will try to get a Toolkit if i can afford one, and hopefully can get it out after that.


And May get a newer USB 3.0 enclosure possibly, not sure yet on that aspect lol---i'd get memory upgrade for laptop, but not sure even when the toolkit arrives if i'll be able to get that screw out. but i can always change my plans, and get the toolkit and maybe memory upgrade as well

Not exactly relevant to Windows 10, but anyway. If your laptop still has a valid Warranty, you should not open it or you will void it! Assuming the Warranty has expired or you don't care, I have seen many laptops having one or more hidden screws so you will damage it if you try to open the case without removing them. To see step-by-step how to disassemble (open) your laptop, search in YouTube with your model and "disassembly" as keywords. You may find a similar model if you cannot find yours, but you get the idea at what to do. As long as you open it, replace the old dry thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink and also between the graphics card and the heatsink. Do not put too much or you will have the opposite effect! You need as little as possible, only to create a very thin layer between the chip and the heatsink. Use a clean (preferably unused) painting brush or toothbrush to scrap any dirt the blower cannot remove and blow it again. Close the case carefully making sure you put all the screws at the correct places and at the correct order. Make sure no cable (such as antenna cable) is too close to a screw or you may accidentally break it when screwing! Also make sure you connect back any connectors you removed or you may lose functionality of the touchpad or keyboard and you'll have to open it again! Also be extra careful when you remove the keyboard and other connectors or you may accidentally break the plastic cover that holds the flex connector in place. If you do that it is very hard to do a workaround and fix it!

Yeah well not sure i'm that comfortable changing Thermal Paste on CPU and GPUs of a laptop, then again never ever done it even on a Desktop, for Desktop cooling fan/heatsink i had a local shop recently change that out. I might just take the Laptop to a local PC service place, and get it professionally worked on.

Sure i probably could do the maintenance myself, but also never done anything with Thermal paste over the years, so not sure on that aspect, normally i just clean dust outta the systems, and put it back together

You are about to go through that trouble and spend at least half an hour just to blow the dust? Once you have opened it is a little more effort to remove the heatsink and replace the thermal paste. If you go to a computer service ask for the cost first! Don't just leave it.

Well I know the one Local service center offers free Desktop & Laptop dust clean outs with service or upgrade, Other place is $45.00 labor, and not sure if anymore charges after that.

I've never done any thermal paste replacements on any of my Desktops over the years, or former laptop before this one, always either had local shop tech do that unforuately, i attempted to one time on an old AMD Duron, but some reason just the heatsink didn't come off the chip, the heatsink, and the CPU chip came out of the cpu slot at once.

Always been nervous with that type of procedure, maybe someday i'll learn exactly how to, but not sure when, unless i learn with a very old AMD FX 8310 system sometime maybe, not sure when though

You better take it to a pro then...

Yeah think best for me to take it to a Pro, as one i know a tiny bit on hardware aspects, but changing cpus, or heatsinks, or thermal paste unforuately i haven't mastered as yet

Do not worry, it happens a lot of time to get out the CPU along with the heatsink (in desktops only). If that happens, use a small screwdriver or other hard tool at the corner of the chip to gently remove the CPU from the heatsink. Then use a napkin or a soft cloth to remove all the residue of dry thermal paste from both the CPU and the heatsink. Be very careful when placing the CPU back on the motherboard to place it at the correct direction, making sure all the pins go in their holes. When sure you have placed it correctly then lower the lever and lock it. Put a very small amount of fresh paste (remember we want a thin layer, not to look with a stuffed biscuit!) and secure the heatsink in place.

You could also buy a laptop base with fans to cool it while working (provided it is not blocked by dust and the heat can come out). Yes, better leave it to the experts.
