    Disabling protected tasks in TaskSchd.msc...?


    How can I disable certain tasks in Taskschd.msc that return the following error message when I try to disable..?

    "The user account you are operating under does not have permission to disable this task."

    I'm already logged in as an Administrator...

    For some reason I can't get PSEXEC to work:

    "Error establishing communication with PsExec service on <PC-NAME>:The system cannot find the path specified."

    It might be that I don't have the right services enabled or maybe SMB client is uninstalled or maybe lmhosts is unchecked or maybe netbios is disabled. Please provide a step-by-step guide to all PSEXEC's requirements if this is your solution...

    P.S. I'd much rather receive a solution that doesn't depend on PSEXEC.

    Bump... anyone have any ideas or able to reproduce this condition on their machine(s)?

    Specifically to do with editing the restricted tasks WITHOUT PSEXEC in order to allow enabling/disabling/configuring of the restricted tasks.

    You have not said which Tasks you are working on but it is often possible to disable a Task's Triggers even though you cannot disable the Task itself.

    Updates are going to reset your changes at some stage however you do them.

    The problem is that taskschd.msc runs within the Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe) host using the logged-on user context even if you use Run as Administrator. You can see this if you use something like Sysinternals/Technet's Process Explorer:

    I suspect you need to run the MMC host as System (or even TrustedInstaller). Try using AprelTech's free, portable RunAsSystem:

    When the MMC opens, add Task Scheduler as a snap-in. As the MMC host is running as System, so will the snap-in:
