Copying files only around 13MB /s , is it normal or abnormal?

They are on the SAME physical hard drive, but different partitions, I cut and paste files from one partition to another, the speed is only around 13MB per seconds. Is it too abnormal ??

Would there be any possible problems behind?
Anything I can do to test or check?

That's difficult to answer without knowing a little more about your system and it's specs. Please take a few moments to fill in you system specs, so we all will know what we are dealing with. Thanks.

Sorry for hijacking your thread. I too face similar issue in Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 (Latest Build).

I get 100% disk usage while I copy paste into internal HDD with same transfer speed you mentioned.

My HDD was replaced few days ago so I feel its the refurbished drive which is causing this issue. My thread is still open

Maybe you can run cystaldiskmark and check your HDD Read/Write speed.

Copying from a drive to same drive is always very slow on hdds for two reasons

    1) The head has to move back and forth to read and write.

    2) Data can only move in one direction at a time (think of it like a road where one way is blocked off using traffic light control to alternate traffic in either direction).

Compare the speed difference when writing from one physical drive to another. The heads do a lot less movement and data can flow in both directions at the same time.

I saw an alleged trick whereby you delete a file to the recycle bin and then drag it from recycle bin to new location. Haven't tried it yet.

I once had that problem and I did a long research that lead me to the follow : Increase your mechanical drive (HDD) performance .

    Is that megabytes or megabits?

If it's megabytes ... then 13 MBps is not bad. That's about 100 Mbps (megabits per second). That would be a top score for common PCs a few years ago. And not bad today.

To get better performance ... get an SSD. The numbers get MUCH bigger.

I would suggest you to download and run crystaldisk info and share the screenshot here after running it on your drive.

Copying files using the same physical disk is going to be slow. Those figures seem okay to me.
