Very slow boot and general overall low speed.

At this point the partitions are irrelevant to the basic problem- just a minor issue. However, at some point it would be worth checking one is actually valid given the OEM designation.
There can be unallocated space there- the size is unusual, I'd have thought.

Okay I read thread. Didn't answer my questions.

    What CPU and Motherboard

    How much main memory?

What kind of storage is installed - provide disk management shot

    Those have no been answered.

    Have you run memory test?
Yes, twice. The results are supposed to be displayed after the system reboots, but they weren't. I tried a second time but no results displayed again.

What was outcome of drivers installs, did you get graphic drivver updated?
I use IObits Driver Booster to take care of that. I can't remember what was updated. But I can say that I have not had any trouble with graphics. I regularly use a couple of graphics programs without problems.

Did you uninstall all AV's except Defender?
No, I missed that. I have Malwarebytes running too.

If you clean boot how is boot time? (Not clean install)

Perform a Clean Boot in Windows 10 to Troubleshoot Software Conflicts

I will have to print all the instructions in order to do that. Will see to it later.

Maybe post screen shot from HDTune benchmark tab?
    http://www.hdtune.com/
I will look into that later.

Do you have another drive not in use that you can clone to and then test. I assume cables to boot drive have been swapped / reseated.
I have an external hard drive. That's something else which will have to take its turn in the to do queue. No cables inside have been touched.

Back to drivers, are your storage drivers from your MB vendor or has windows loaded generic MS drivers?
    Sorry, don't know.

Hi, seems you never really were able to complete an adequate boot trace for effective analysis.
    Please note boot time
    a. from restart to lock screen
    b. from sign in to desktop appearing.
When your PC is nominally idle, post a screenshot of your task manager, organising any columns of interest high to low by clicking on the relevant tab.
Then do a clean boot and repeat the above.
    Post the 4 times.
Then copy a large file from the disk back to the same disk.
Post a screenshot similar to this:
    Attachment 195575
    Thanks.

I will get round to these things eventually, but as you can see, there are other things I need to do first.

Fortunately you don't need to- that was a comment to Caledon Ken.

Can't use the printer now, one of the ink cartridges has to be replaced. It's been on order for a few days. I'll be back when I can continue.

Thank you all for your patience.

Thank you Ken, I have Memtest on the USB drive now and will start it up in a few moments.

This gives me time to attend to one or two outstanding tasks in the house !

Another damn fly in the ointment.

I haven't yet been able to boot into BIOS, A search produced many versions.

    Any sure-fire suggestions please?

F1 or F10 at startup would be typical for HP- what have you tried?
