have to pay $100 more than half of $800 to $900.

I don't follow that. Please clarify.

I want whatever build I go with to be very future proof, i.e. being able to play newer games in 2 years at reasonable FPS.

At your budget level, I'd try to get the phrase "future proof" out of my vocabulary. Maybe even forever regardless of budget. It's an overused cliche that doesn't add anything to what you are trying to accomplish.

Do you have any particular aversion to Intel processors? I notice all of your candidates are AMD.

I'm guessing his parents are paying 1/2 of the cost of his PC, but he has to pay $100 more than they do.

honestly that is true. but id rather just get what i want now and then upgrade a year or so in the future.
What part of what you quoted is honestly true?

What pieces would you want to upgrade in a year or so?

It's much easier to upgrade the stuff outside the case--which is why I think you should emphasize the stuff inside the case now---IF IF IF you will have more money in a year.

It's not really cost effective to upgrade major internal components in one year UNLESS you have no budget problems.

Do you also need to factor in the cost of a copy of Windows?

I hate the term future proof. No matter what you spend, you cannot be future proof. And when you are buying on a budget, nothing is future proof.

I would recommend getting the 1060 video card over the 1050ti. We have a 6GB 1060 in my sons build and it does a great job at 1920x1200.

I'm not really a fan of the micro atx mobo. You don't have much expansion room on that board whatsoever.

The 144Hz monitor will require more video power, as it can display more than 60FPS. So, I'd keep your video card as high as possible if you stick with the AOC monitor.
no, ill get the free version of windows. I probably will stick with the 1060 card

And i have read everywhere that ryzen to intel price to performance ratios are way out of wack. AMD just seems a much better cpu, but by all means, show me a good intel build.

disregard me saying that it was honestly true. I dont know why i said that. In a year or so i might upgrade the cpu or gpu. But i do suppose that isnt very cost effective. But I honestly cant save that much by getting cheaper, peripherals, right? At most $30. Please recommend me some though.

Well, first gaming on an Intel Pentium just means you aren't going to have a good experience. A core i3, i5 or i7 would not provide you with the same experience.

Here is a suggestion for an Intel CPU and mobo. $270 for the combo. Gaming performance is generally better on the Intel's. Heavily multithreaded apps benefit from the higher core counts of Ryzen. If gaming is your #1 requirement, I'd personally go Intel.
