I happen to like overkill.
I may have just acquired a i7 3770K build that was never completed from one of my elderly computer geek friends. Everything is new in box and he wants some of my systems I've been planning on selling. The prices for a 3770K is insane! If all goes well I will be putting my 970 in this rig and use it for a long time!
Built my wife's system and the free 3770K build tonight. The 3770K's MB is dead may be awhile till I have the funds to buy another one. On the other hand, my wife's i3-6100 smokes my FX-6300. A little depressing on how fast this system is but I know that's what 4 years in tech does.
I wouldn't say that it "smoked" it but Intel always had better single core performance. Even "G" Intel processors have better single core performance. OCing FX can help a lot. My FX 6350 at 4.8 GHz was just couple percent slower in single core score than 6/7 gen Intel but better than I3/I5 in multi thread.
EVGA announces 1080 Ti Kingpin release, it`ll probably take the usual 6 months to come in stock.

Wow, gotta say I like the copper look, different. Seems like the big names are all pushing their "ultimate" versions out now,I know it's not evga, but I am waiting for MSI's lighning 1080ti to come in stock in any of my stores, probably out oversees already but yeah.
copiertech25 I had almost the same ordeal, bought my wife a new upgraded set, 6th gen cpu i5 etc, and it ran circles around my i7 gen 2, technology is ever changing, I agree with you 100% and mine were both intel.
However, her boot up time now is 2 seconds faster then mine, and my new upgraded stuff is technologically speaking faster, but I made my own "findings", the fancier the motherboard, the more apps and unnecessary tasks it loads at boot up, I have got mystic lights, app boost, x boost, app manager etc at startup, all loading. And yes, I know I can disable them from starting up etc, but my point is, my wife has a "non-gamer' motherboard, 8gig ram a ssd and an i5 cpu with the nvidia 1060ti, and she boots faster up etc. Just funny how it all works. this is all IMHO and my own finding.
