I meant some third party antivirus programs use their own certificate when SSL scanning. There is nothing like that in Defender. I asked just in case you were using an alternative.

    Hi Callender,

As I wrote yesterday in my feedback, I performed those steps in #15, but no improvement is experienced.

I tried all suggestions proposed in this thread, but nothing has helped so far.

Out of curiosity, is there any differencce if you use Safe Mode with Networking for example?

All I can suggest is try running ZHP Cleaner (2024)

    Anti-malware software. -ZAM

Inspect the results and validate the ones you want to keep/ remove before closing the window.

    Warnings thrown up

The scan might take a while.

Other than that maybe reset network adapters:

These are just guesses and not guaranteed fixes.

Nope. There is no differencce whether or not I use Safe Mode with Networking .

The network adapters have already been reset, but no success.

The integrated Windows antivirus software did not find any problematic issue in this regard. Anyway I shall use the ZAM app you proposed here, but I find it highly unlikely, that a virus causes this specific issue in my case. Almost sure, that the above mentioned card reader software from reiner-sct.com triggered some turmoil in certificates management.
I 'd suggest to narrow focus on certificates, if I may.

I understand, but can offer no advice on that.

Do you have a disk image created before this problem occurred? If so you could compare the certificates stored.

(The routine use of disk imaging is endlessly recommended here).

    I also said (above)
    As it was
a recently installed and uninstalled card reader program
    - do you have a System Restore point created before its installation you could use?

I thought I had, but when I attempted recently to access that previous restore point, I found it disappeared in the haze. No idea, how come.

Edit: ... certainly it must be competely different from disk imaging. No, so far no such thing as disk imaging was applied as security measurement.

After all, no soft procedure seems to help find the underlying reason. If nothing else remains, will that be a final resort for me to re-install Windows 10 from an .ISO file, you think ? Will that restore the assumed misconfiguration in result, regarding this issue in subject ?

You can certainly try an in-place upgrade repair install using an iso file (Tutorial available).

Whether it will help...you can only try. That the problem is present on a new account supports trying it.

As for disk imaging: e.g. Macrium Reflect, Aomei Backupper, Hasleo Backup - free options exist; large enough external storage for image file sets needed. MS say go 3rd party for this.

Can let you restore your whole O/S or any imaged partition to as it was.
As I've said here 100s of times.. you can e.g.
    - Recover from unrecoverable unbootable situations
    - Disk failure (new disk)
    - Ransomware
    - Theft (transfer O/S etc to new PC).

    Etc.

That's for anything unusual that might interfere with browsing. It probably won't flag up much but you never know. It could flag up an incorrect setting.

    ZHPCleaner Anti-Malware - ZAM

There's nothing to lose by trying an in place upgrade keeping programs and files.

O.K. The trouble is, that ZAM download page is not accessible either, at least on this on this laptop, so I can't install that virus buster either.

Also : Miscroft's website and many of its subsites are available, still the specific page where the downloadable .iso file is buried, wont't load. Kind of mistery ;-(
