    Connecting to house WiFi

    Hi,
I wish to make an internet connection using our house wifi (virgin router - version not known) I have the wifi password, but when it comes to connect (password text box) I'm asked for the network security - why is this?
It also is a problem as my landlady thinks it's the one on the bottom of the hub (it isn't) and as she is happy that all is well with her world , I'm stuck.
    Any suggestions?

There are two passwords on the bottom of a typical router, one will be the WiFi key, the other is the Admin password for logging into the router and configuring it. The 'network security' you are being asked for when trying to connect is the WiFi key.

There may be another option if you can get access to the router. First, try to connect your PC. When asked for the key, press the WPS button on the router.

Yes I know, but why is Windows asking for the wrong one?.
I know the WiFi one is correct, (Connected my printer with it) So why is it rejected when I use it to make an internet wifi connect.
It doesn't make sense does it?
Ask for the wifi password in a wifi context, not a network password key. It's plain wrong.

I suspect your question will only be answered & your problem resolved by studying the manual for that router and, possibly, talking to Virgin tech support.
Unless she had somebody else set up the router for her in which case they might help you out.
    - There will probably have been some setting up done because, for a few years now, routers have rightfully demanded that their admin passwords get changed on first boot.
    - There might well have been automatic router firmware updates since you set up your printer.

    Best of luck,

You may have an existing WiFi profile for that router with incorrect settings. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi. Click on Manage known networks. If the router is already listed there, click on its name then click the Forget button. Then try connecting again.

I have recently set my win 10 only system to dual boot 10/11. I use the Insider preview build for 11.
No connection to Inernet was establised by my hard wired connection normally used on the Win 10 side.
so I thought I would try the on board wifi (which is WiFi 6 ) and worth a shake.
I still don't understand why my hard wire connection didn't start up.
Nobody can tell me why entering the wifi password for the router does not work for a wifi alternative connection..
It's not logical. My win 11 system is a clean install, so where are these profiles coming from.
I'm not at all happy with the logic being applied here.
Is the router being polled by Windows , or is the entered password (wifi) being checked against some bizzarely , amd previous;y set up profile. WE get no indication of this at all.
Maybe clearing existing ghost wifi profiles is the answer, but it's not blindingly obvious is it.
All looks very amateur to me.
    regards
