Just back home from a busy day so I have not had the issue yet today. When it first happens the wireless icon is a globe and to be honest, I can't recall off hand what the web page is saying; I thought I took a screen shot, but I can't find. When I click on that globe thing (status icon) that is there instead of the wifi signal and select to connect to the internet I click on my network and have to select to connect again. The icon will show that I am connected, but I can not load any webpages. I have tried going into device manager and then removing the network adapter - Dell Wireless 1703 802.11b|g|n (2.4GHz) and select to check for changes to bring it back up but that does not help either. This was only happening maybe once a month or so in the past, but over the past week it has been happening just about every single day. Eventually, I can again load a webpage but it isn't after doing something to get it to connect. I have tried restarting / power cycling the router and modem, which is not helping either as well as running the troubleshooter and that has not helped either.

I didn't realize that mini pc is an actual computer that I would get and use in place of this desktop! It is really tiny and was trying to see how many usb ports it has as well as confirm that my monitor will connect to it without my having to get a new monitor and I think that it should connect to it. I will have to get an external cd / dvd drive but I have the feeling that manufacturers are not including them anymore and I would have to do that either way. I do have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse that I use but I can't imagine that would not work with it either.
I guess that considering the price right now, I would need to get it within the next week or two for that deal, was just hoping for a cheaper fix, which is why I was wondering about one of those things that you plug into a usb port to connect to the wireless router but then it occurred to me that perhaps it would start fighting with the installed card inside the desktop.

so far today, I am not having the issue (at least not yet - lol). All these issues with keeping this computer connected to the internet may just be its way of telling me that it is time to replace it.
Thanks for the code. I am going to place that order for the one you suggested --- but I am determined to figure out what the issue is with this one and how it could be resolved (yes, I can be very stubborn at times)

Just placed the order and there was a code Welcome10 that gave me $10 off and I couldn't combine them, but thanks for that code!

The other day you asked about the error I was getting
    Samuria
The Amazon wireless would make a big difference. When you can't connect what is the error?

    Open a CMD prompt type
    Ipconfig /all
    Tracert 194.119.131.66
    Tracert adobe.com

    Post results

    Well it happened again today.

I get a screen that says this site can't be reached
    the connection was reset
    try:
    checking the connection
checking the proxy and the firewall
    Running Windows Network Diagnostics

    ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

below that is the option to reload (brings me back to the same page)
    and details

Details states to check your internet connection
Allow Chrome to access the network in your firewall or antivirus settings
If you use a proxy server to check that the server is working and if you don't believe you should be using a proxy server to go to the chrome menu > settings > show advanced settings > change proxy settings > LAN settings and deselect "use a proxy server for your LAN"

Well, I can't find anything in chrome to select show advanced settings once I am in settings. and if I type in proxy in the search on chrome it brings up the proxy in computer setting and Use a proxy server is off.

When I go into device manager and select the Dell setting in network and properties for it I get a screen saying it is working perfectly.

I ran the ipconfig /all and here are the results

sorry for the delay in responding - we were getting severe storms coming through yesterday and I don't like to be on the computer during those storms.

I will most definitely read that article and I will be doing the reset and see about setting the DNS to 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1

I did have it go out on me about an hour ago while I was already online and checking emails when it happened. the icon in the lower right corner was showing that I was connected and the troubleshooter was not helping at all since it did not find any problems.
I tried something different and I left clicked on the internet icon and selected to log in using the guest account. A screen popped up to log into that account, I did that and I was again connected to the internet. Very strange, since that little lenovo was connected using the main / secured connection, when I turned that one on. I just looked at the internet icon and left clicked on it to see the internet connection and it is showing that I am connected to the main account (secured connection) and I didn't change a thing since I was able to connect.

Will read that article and get back to you.

Again, thanks so very much for all the assistance.

    I did as suggested.
These are the results after doing the steps to reset the net (this is what the command prompt gave when done:

I then followed steps to set the DNS to 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1

Going to be logging out for the evening so I will let you know tomorrow if that has in fact resolved this whole mess.

Again, I can't thank you enough for all the assistance and sticking with me throughout this whole thing.

    - - - Updated - - -

As of this morning, I am not having that issue yet - I had no issues yesterday nor this morning and hoping that this has in fact resolved the problem.

That new mini pc is scheduled to arrive sometime on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing what this thing looks like and hoping that my monitor will connect without any issues. Guess I will be seeing what changes there are in the windows 11 os vs windows 10.

I had been thinking about upgrading the ram in this desktop but then I started having all these issues with staying connected to the internet and I have the feeling that this one may be on its way out which stinks since it is mostly used for searching online for information regarding health and other pertinent information and it is not run constantly, but like all computers, they eventually become outdated anyway.

Here's hoping that having reset the net and adding those DNS settings does in fact resolve the issue with this one.

Again, I can't possibly thank you enough for all the assistance and patience with helping me deal with this issue.

Question about that geekom mini 1T11 computer.
I was just going over the specs and I did not see anything about a port for connecting a monitor to it I know that my monitor has the 1 VGA port; 1 DVI-D (with HDCP) port to connect to the Dell desktop computer. Would you know if I am going to be able to use my current monitor or if I am going to need to get a different monitor for that unit?

    Thanks Again

    - - - Updated - - -

Well, that was too good to be true - I lost my connection again on this desktop but everything else can connect to the internet. I clicked on that icon on the bottom right that was there instead of the wifi signal and selected to open network & internet settings and selected the guest access option, put in the password and was again connected to the internet.

Oh well, I thought that might have actually resolved the problem.

I did start researching into whether or not there was a cable that goes from HDMI to VGA or HDMI to DVI cable , so I am now just trying to figure out exactly which I need (female to female, etc combinations). I did look at monitors, but for now, the cable is going to be a much more affordable option vs spending closer to $100 for a cheap monitor.

    Thanks So Very Much

I decided to check and see what the DNS settings were after I lost that connection again today and those settings were blank like they were before I set them. So I entered that information againis my wireless network card going bad?-dns-settings.jpg
