Trouble attaching to Ubuntu on network

    Windows 19045.3324 Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS

    Both are connected through cat5.

The Ubuntu's Device name is Ubuntu when I try to map a drive letter these are my choices:

HPA... is probably my Chrome Book
    JIMSO... is my computer
    LINK.... is the router
    SUZY... is my wife's computer

I'm also able to ping Ubuntu's ip address

    No Ubuntu, any ideas?

It is on the same network -- I know nothing about setting up sharing on Ubuntu, any hints?

I guess I need more than a few hints, I know very little about networking with Windows and absolutely nothing about Ubuntu.

The article said "Install Samba or SSHFS: Depending on the method you choose to share the folder, you may need to install Samba or SSHFS on your Ubuntu system. Ensure you have installed the required packages before proceeding with the sharing process."

I have no idea which one to install or how to install either (I know I could Google it to see how to install them).

This is a replacement for an older computer that ran Ubuntu very well.

Got to the point where it's asking me to enter network credentials, but it won't accept my password.

    I found this:
Share Ubuntu 22.04 Folder With Win11 PC On Local Network - YouTube

Says Windows 11. I'm sure it should be similar like on Windows 10. See if trying this method works.

Some Linux distros make filesharing with Windows easy by doing all the work for you (like Linux Mint, which is based on Ubuntu) whilst others make you sweat for it (like Ubuntu itself which, IMO, is not a distro for a Linux newbie).

If you're a Linux newbie then I suggest you choose your Linux distro wisely... IMO it's a snap with Mint whilst I've had to leap through hurdles with Ubuntu itself.

    Hope this helps...

Interesting, I was able to access the folder through the run command, but could not map it through Map Network Drive, I get Access is denied

You are best to look at this as a SaMBa issue not windows. That means looking through the various Wiki's available online regarding Linux and SaMBa.

Do you have any tutorials that would help me establish connections between Windows and Mint? I installed Mint, went through several tutorials and I get Access is denied. The folders on Mint I want to share say "The permissions for /home/jim prevent other users from accessing this share".
