Internet Properties > Connections > Lan Settings - not able to change

    Hi All,

In my Windows 10 Pro x64 22H2 build 19045.2846 - I am not able to make any changes to this Internet Properties > Connections > Lan Settings window.

In the screenshot below, Automatically detect settings is Un-Ticked. Any attempt to tick an empty box will not work. Clicking OK or Apply does nothing, no error message.

Apart from this, everything is performing normally.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    BoxT

Hi, welcome to tenforums. Noting you have Pro, suggest you check your group policy settings.

Is this a work PC or your own personal PC? I.e. are any policies in force?

    E.g.
Internet Properties > Connections > Lan Settings - not able to change-1.jpg

(That screenshot is from Policy Plus (free) - a gp editor substitute which I also use as it has a useful 'find' feature).

    Hi dalchina,

This is my own Personal/Home PC and not a Work PC. I am not aware of any Policies in the Internet/Networking area that are configured.

I used your suggested PolicyPlus tool to make sure I was looking in the same area as your screenshot and it shows as Not Configured. Just in case I changed the setting to Disabled, Applied, OK, then put back on "Not Configured".

I have not yet rebooted but there is no change.

    Additionally:-
Under the section Network Connections, all Policies are listed as Not Configured.

BTW, I was not aware of PolicyPlus - it looks interesting.

Thanks for those suggestions but those settings were already in place and need no alteration.

Incidentally I remembered I had not checked another Admin account I had setup some time ago. So, I booted into another Windows Account as Admin and checked. The same problem exists there as well.

It looks like the problem is system wide and not confined to my main Windows logon account.

You are of course free to try an in-place upgrade repair install (which keeps all progs and data ) - which may or may not help in this case.

Before doing so, try creating a NEW user account and check the problem also exists in that. You can delete the account afterwards (Standard check).

You could also check if the problem exists in Safe Mode (caveat- I've not checked that dialogue is available in Safe Mode).

I just checked and the problem exists in Safe Mode with Networking (that dialogue definitely is available).

As regards the in-place upgrade repair install suggestion - I will pass on it. The amount of work for something with no likelihood of success makes it unattractive. I have done on other PCs, an in-place upgrade repair install with worse problems that did not get repaired.

I will try creating another, NEW Windows Logon Account later and see but I am thinking I will likely have to live with the problem.

    Thanks so far,

If you have ever disabled any services or think that's a possibility see

While I have tweaked a lot of Privacy settings in Windows 10 (and Win 11 on only one other PC) I tend to do the same on all of them. My main PC with the problem above was working until the most recent Windows Update. Whether before or after I am not sure.

It is the only one to have this problem. I was hoping I was not alone with it and was hoping there was a simple fix. But, it appears there is not.

So, for the moment, I will give up and see if any further problems or forum info arrives in future. I am not prepared to do an over the top install to fix such a minor problem.

Personally, I think there is some crucial dll that has become unregistered, but I don't know where to look. I doubt it is a Service that is not loading as a comparison between different PCs does not show anything glaring to me. With the recent removal of Internet Explorer these past few months, I suspect it may depend on one of IE's dll files or some associated dll file that got removed at the same time. But that is a pure guess on my part.

I was hoping the experts here knew or had seen the same problem.

So I thank the above respondents and thanks for your suggestions.

    Regards,
