    Thank you Try3

Very many disconnects so far today so pre-typing to send in a gap.
I have quickly read your helpful posts and want to pursue this ...... just lack of connection time stopping me at the moment.
I do not have a specific script .... I am using a browser add-on called "Internet Connection Log" for chrome based ones (actually on Opera).
Quite willing to do 'open computer' surgery when I have guidance ........ so will be back later.
    Your help is much appreciated.

    Paul

    - - - Updated - - -

    A slight hiccough ......
    Changed save path to C:\Desktop\NetConnection.log
Wont play in PowerShell because .........
File C:\Users\paul\Downloads\Paul-InternetRecorder.ps1 cannot be loaded. The file
C:\Users\paul\Downloads\Paul-InternetRecorder.ps1 is not digitally signed. You cannot run this
script on the current system. For more information about running scripts and setting execution
    policy, see about_Execution_Policies at https:/go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=135170.
    + CategoryInfo : SecurityError: (:) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : UnauthorizedAccess

    PS C:\Users\paul\Downloads>

    So a bit stuck now.

    Paul,

I had not realised that you were using a pre-written browser utility.
I had thought you were pinging yourself.

It makes me wonder if all the work of setting up a PS script will get you any additional benefit.

It helps if I actually read the post information !!
Turns out I was looking at the wrong bit of the event viewer.....
    Had not paid attention.
So now I have "Is the internet available: true"
    Followed by "false"
585 events logged (oh yes, ridiculous here).

    Paul

EDIT: I would still like to use your script if it avoids pinging, which as has been explained to me, I should avoid if possible.

I think you are being misled by the way File explorer, ThisPC dispalys things.
Those 'folders' in ThisPC are not real folders. They are glorified shortcuts that have been given folder icons.

Paste this in your File explorer address bar [funny symbols and all]
    C:\Users\%UserName%
and you'll see your real user folders inside that.
So the address of your Desktop is probably something like
    C:\Users\Paul\Desktop
Put that in the script [but no funny symbols allowed].

Once you have edited the file to put in the Desktop path yourself, check the file will be treated as a local one by right-clicking on it, Properties & clearing the Block checkbox.
That should allow it to run.
And I should have remembered to say so before.

The proper way is to open an Admin PS window [right-click on the Start button & select it] then run this
    Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
but you should clear that checkbox anyway & you do need to edit the script in Notepad to add the Desktop path so you might as well do it the easy way.

So another option for you is just to look at those Custom view results at the end of each day.
[You have not made any specific comments but I assume you have imported it - post #9]
They can be exported - look on the right-hand side of Event viewer:
Save all events in Custom view as...
Give the output file a name
Choose Save as type - CSV {which opens in Excel or any other spreadsheet & can later be saved as xlsx if you want to format or filter anything in it}.

    Paul,

How do you know the problem is not your computer, your router, your cabling/WiFi between the computers-router?

    Because ...
ADSL box replaced by Orange start of August.
Internal old cable replace by shielded cat5e few days ago.
External telephone line replaced by Orange a few days ago.
All diagnostic tests and "chat" operatives say it is the distance to exchange and age of line upstream.
Machines have both worked flawlessly elsewhere on a variety of different wifi connections for years now.
Used to commute England/Ireland/France and always had wifi fully functional.
Even the adsl box states that it cannot detect the network.

    Paul
    EDIT: Event viewer date/time
It seems I am not paying attention .....
The events I am seeing are all from last year.
Have looked at date/time on both machines and they seem to be correct to within a minute of each other.
No events from this year at all under 55 for UniversalTelemtryClient/Operational ....

And in a connection gap ...
Computer clock is 0.8 seconds ahead
    Not too bad I think

Click in the header of the date-time column once or twice to make sure you are seeing that latest events at the top of the list. And click on the Action menu, Refresh.
It would be very unusual for Event viewer to still have events from last year. It progressively cleans its records out. Mine, just for example, only has EventID 55 records back to 22nd Aug 2022.

    Thank you Denis

Had already been messing like that all without success.
Just cleared the log. Lets see what happens next.
Had exported to csv before as you suggested but was having fun with Excel time format.
Was previously able to do time calculations with the othe csv log files but seem to be missing something this time.
Patience wearing pretty thin with my head and telecoms .........
