I'm online from my wifi laptop but can't connect to my home network

I haven't used this Aspire A5 W10 laptop for months, but as soon as it powered on (wifi) it connected to the internet.
But I can't connect to my home network.
When I click on my network icon I can see my main desktop computer, but clicking it tells me the network path was not found.
The laptop has only one SSD and I've set it as fully shared.
    Any suggestions?

Sharing is often problematic. If set up and working, it's usually stable but can be hard to impossible to resolve issues.

    1. If any other devices are Win 7 you need SMB1 enabled, otherwise not.

Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10

If you can see the device, but not succeed in re-establishing sharing, try creating a shortcut to it instead.
This helped when after upgrading this PC to 21H1, then 2, it could no longer access my 1903 PC, whilst my 1903 PC can access this one.

Windows often says that when it really means that you do not have permission to access the path.

This is the procedure I have used for all my networks.

dalchina and Try3: Guys, thanks for the tips, I'll try 'em and see what happens. BTW, when I later got back to my main PC, a W7 Ultimate device, I had no trouble seeing, connecting to, and moving files to and from the W10 laptop. So, as you've pointed out, it's probably some W10 communication idiosyncrasy. Grr. If I could install W7 on the Aspire, I would.

See whether using ip numbers instead of names will improve things.

If everybody is on the same wifi they are all on the same network, this is true especially with modems with built in routers today. Same if you connect to a router that is connected to you r modem. Even if your all connected to the same phone service.

A service similar to Internet sharing or file sharing has to be turned on. Not sure.

_____ computers all must have something listed as shared and could be edited by ______ on the network. If you put everyone, then everyone who is connected to the network ( including people on the internet ) will be able to connect to that item ( folder and item ) you listed as shared ( if they know you computers MAC address. However when a home network is plugged in ( non internet ) that is not true because the internet is not being shared. By home I do not mean designate the network being home but computers connected to each other via cards and cables. Wireless can be a home network but again internet is being passed through it. It kinda gets into that Roman Tolus thing AKA TTFF tables.

    >......

Lets say everybody is on the phones network via Wifi-Hotspot. That is a network but if nobody sharing is enabled while you can see each others network name folder nothing will be shared because it has not been listed as share.

Nope, I've tried all the steps of all the fixes listed by Dalchina and Try3 but the problem still exists. The W10 laptop refuses to access my main W7 pc (named CG16) on my home network, although it can 'see' it, ie, it shows CG16 in the network list.
The only thing I haven't tried is Dalchina's suggestion about creating a shortcut, mainly because I'm not sure where this shortcut is supposed to be. I'm assuming it has to be on the W10 laptop but I don't understand how it could work. More info please, Dalchina, if you'd be so kind.

Daymin, sorry: I have no idea what you're trying to say.

    Try3: Yep, did that.
    Dalchina: Tried it, no workum.
But! I found the solution! Apparently (if I read it correctly) the problem was caused by a Windows update. Here's the fix:
Configure the following Group Policy settings:
    Computer configuration\administrative templates\network\Lanman Workstation
    "Enable insecure guest logons"

[SOLVED] W10: You can't access this shared folder because your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access - General Support - Unraid

Windows issues with unRAID - General Support - Unraid

Guys, much thanks for your suggestions

PS: I only found the solution when trying to apply Dalchina's network shortcut solution. It didn't work, but the action prompted the popup message, " You can't access this shared folder.....", which led to me googling the issue. LOL.

PPS: Here's a Youtube link to an associated registry fix. Note: I didn't check this registry setting because my LAN issue is fixed, but if I read the second Unraid page correctly, some folks have needed to do the reg setting as well.
