    Router remote access settings?

    Dear all

I was looking through my Router settings, and this one confused me:
    Screenshot by Lightshot

    1.
Does it mean remote acccess to my network, or only remote access to the router?

    2.
The setting below, does it mean, that now everyone can get access to my network or router, from the internet?
Or is it first when the settting with HTTP 8080 is enabled?

    3.
The settings on the screenshot, are those default settings?

    4.
What else can I check in router settings, to make sure that remote access is not enabled?

    Thanks in advance for replying

    Best regards

Hi EmilDK, please provide a make & model for your router.

Most users here prefer that you post screenshots instead of provide links to Cloud servers unless you're posting large files.

It is often used by the ISP to change settings on the router if you have a problem as it states on the screenshot it means anyone could login and change your settings to gain access to your network

So Remote access is turned on?

What keeps everyone else from getting access to my router / network via remote access then?

Those settings allow you to enter your router's setup page from the internet (WAN) side of the router. It does not give access to your network. It gives access to the router's setup page from the internet.

So in other words, it is not a way for a hacker / another person to get access to my network?

They can get into your router and change settings that would then allow them access to your network. You probably have no need to access the router settings remotely from the internet side so just leave it disabled.

How can I make sure that Remote access i disabled?
The settings on the screenshot, is it disabled there?
What else shall I look for?

That was a good example of how it can be exploited, I have checked "Port forwarding" setting several times, and it is empty

The little dot slider for HTTP is off. I believe that turns off remote access. What choices do you have for the drop down menu for access type? Set that drop down to the most restrictive.

If you want to verify remote access is turned off the go tot he website:
    What is my IP Address?

It will display the ip address assigned to your router by your ISP. Then go to a device connected to the internet, but not through your own network. I like to turn off my cell phone WiFi and use it's cellular LTE connection. Go to:
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 <-replace the xxx with the ip address you got from ip4.me. There should be no connection there, it should timeout. Then try:
https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 <-again replace xxx with the ip address you got. There should be no connection there either. If either one of those actually connects to your router setup page, then remote access is turned on.
