    A weak signal problem

I have a router provided by my ISP which puts out a 5GHz signal download speed at around 18-20MBs and an upload from 2- 4MBs upload.
Now I have a laptop I use in my sitting room that through a TP-Link RE505X extender only down loads at 2-4 MBs.
If I use the laptop next to the extender the downloads rises to anything from 14- 18 MBs and what I am thinking of is installing another one of those extenders in between the sitting room and the existing extender that it might daisy chain the signal to my sitting room at something approaching a decent download speed.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

When you put the router near the extender, are you sure it's actually using the extender? At that same place, what numbers do you get if you turn off the extender?

No Steve what I meant was when I put my laptop next to the extender I get the higher speed if I use the laptop in the sitting room the download speed drops right off. I know it is using the extender because when I click on the network icon it shows the provider followed by _5GEXT (it does show that in the sitting room but I suspect it is just a poor signal from the router in the first instance) hence why I am thinking that putting another decent extender like the TP-Link in between the existing extender and the sitting room . That -5GEXTdoesn't show up when I use the laptop in the computer room where the router is.

Some routers give you the ability to turn up the transmit power - might be worth logging into your ISP router to see if it has that ability. Does ISP router also have 2.4 GHz (or similar) frequency capabilities?

Is the extender in the same room as the laptop? Move the extender to 1/2 the distance between where you are using the laptop and the primary router.

Yeah, maybe you can find them on sale or something similar from another company. They work well for me.

Configure WiFi Router as a Repeater! Connect two WiFi Routers Wirelessly! - YouTube cheaper solution for you that will probably work better than the repeater you currently have. If you have an old router laying around unused, you can try seeing if it has repeater capability.
