Slow download speeds using External Win2USB SSD

    Hello,

Every time I fresh install windows 10 on to my external SSD for gaming, the download speeds are fine around 12/mb (should be getting 15mb/s). After a few weeks, it just stops working. This is an issue specifically with External windows. My main NVMe drives are fine. Some points:

    1. Downloads are now capped at 1 - 1.4mb/s, opposed to 15mb/s, from any vendor, STEAM, google drive, etc.
    2. Sometimes, when I connected to my neighbors wifi, then switch back, it resolves. But not anymore.
    3. This is a samsung pro 840 ssd via usb 3.0.
    4. MSI GS66 laptop with 6core and 2070

Before you ask me to check my router, internet connections, drive, cables, etc, that is NOT the issue. All other computers in the house download fine, including this laptops main NVMe SSD. It's Windows being on an external drive. When I asked other forums for help, their answer is always "External Windows is no longer supported, it's pretty much just glitchy and broken".

Anyway, if you guys solve this, you're seriously geniuses. This laptop is for work so I like to have my games on a portable SSD.

    Thanks :)

Is the driver for the WiFi adapter the same version as the internal installed Windows 10? And Windows 10 on external USB is not glitchy and broken.

Yes same laptop, same driver, same copy of windows. Currently capped at 1.3 MB/s. RIP STEAM downloads.

Is there a way to reset the wifi in windows 10 or specifically this drive? I don't want to reset the entire house/computers. I ask because a few times I connected to my neighbors wifi then back again, it fixed the issue. Also, when I connect to my neighbours wifi I get 2.5mb/s (still low), which is weird, because it's not a router issue. It's like the winusb drive just starts hating wifi in general

    Reinstalling wifi drivers did nothing

Update: I was connected to my neighbours wifi for like an hour, downloading GTA. Switched it bck to my network, then it peaked to 10mb/s speed. Still slower than the regular 15mb/s, but yeah. That lasted for 2 minutes, now it's back down to 1.4mb.
