Have 2 notebooks running Win 10 Pro wirelessly connected to an Xfinety Home F70A-5 gateway router. What settings do I need to configure to allow them to share file access on a private network.

Here is what I did:on 2 notebooks both running Windows 10 Professional version 2004 and connected to the Internet through Xfinety gateway router model Home F70A-5
- cleaned, updated, turned on Windows Defender
- ran Windows Resource Protection - found no integrity errors
- verified WiFi settings on both PCs
- Connected to a Private network
- Directory Discovery is On
- Automatic setup of network discovery is On
- File and Printer sharing is On
What could be preventing File Sharing from working?
Have you actually created shares that's first job then set permission on the share to every one. When you then try and connect what happens any error message?
The fact that they see each other is encouraging but you must set your desired folders to be shared now.

- In File explorer, right-click on the folder, Properties, Sharing tab, Advanced sharing
- Set the checkbox for Share this folder
- Give it a Share name
- Click on Permissions,
- Everyone - Set Full control / Change / Read as desired
When you then try to access a shared folder from another computer for the first time, you might be challenged for network credentials. Give it the name & password of an Admin account [that must have both the same name & the same password on each computer] and tick the checkbox for remembering the credentials for future connections.

I thought providing a complete list would be more helpful than just posting additional steps as I initially did in post #6 above.

I am following instructions, so far on both PCs I have turned SMB 1,0/CIF$ File Sharing Support On except for sub feature SMB 1.0/CIFS Automatic Removal, I left that off.
I have discovered a discrepancy! On one machine under C:/Users instead of user name KCAV the word Owner appears.
Wish I could continue but I am scheduled to attend a meeting in 5 minutes.
