    trouble connecting desktop & laptop

    Hello,

I work as a caregiver, and am trying to get my client's laptop to talk to the desktop. I guess Windows 10 no longer has a homegroup, although it does come up in the WinExp sharing menu for sharing, for some reason. Anyway, I've got it to where the laptop & the desktop are each showing me that the other computer is on the network, but neither one can see anything on the other computer. I've gone to MS's sharing help page, but there's no answer for me there. Can anyone help me get these two computers to share their documents with each other?

First you need to set up shares have you done? Anything in the users profile is desktop, docs has special permission set so you can't simply see the others docs unless you pass their username password when connecting

    Hello Samuria,

What I'm trying to do is to share entire folders vs individual documents - so I want to share the Documents & Pictures folders. When I right click on those folders, since there's not an actual option to share, when I look at "Give Access to", there isn't an option that exactly fits what I'm trying to do. When I try to give access to specific people, it only offers users on that device, not users on the network. So, what am I missing?

As explained these folders have special permissions the reason being if this was at work it could be illegal under data proctection even on the pc you may have problems seeing other peoples files. Its very hard to get to these files its simpler to use pulic folders or setup a folder that can be shared and copy files to the the only other way is to connect and pass admin username and password

Setting up shares used to be much simpler. It shouldn't be an issue on a private home network. Why do the settings on the attached screenshot not enable sharing?
Please provide specific steps I can follow to enable the share between the two computers. Copying everything to a special folder isn't a good answer - and if I can share a special folder, why can't I share the original folder? Sorry, I'm just not getting what the problem is!

To share a users folder take a lot and may be revoked by any MS upgrade/update people may not want others viewing their folders and in a company it could be illegal this is why its hard to do
Thats what public folders are for Turn On or Off Public Folder Sharing in Windows 10.

As explained the only other way is to pass the username and password of the admin user whe connecting

Change this and save as a mao.cmd file then run it to connect to the c drive

    net use s: \\pcname\c$ /user:HTG Crazy

Change pcname to the actual pc name change HTG to the username on the pc and change Crazy to their passqord

So I followed the instructions in the link provided. There were several settings I had to change on each computer, and I needed a reboot, but it was all pretty easy. However, I still cannot access the folders I've set up to share.

When I go to explorer on the desktop, under Network, it shows both the desktop & the laptop, but it says the laptop is empty. When I go to explorer on the laptop, it errors out when I try to connect to the desktop. Here's the error.
